I'm going to be un-governing my GX160 and I'm looking for a tachometer. I dont have any source of power.
What are my options? I dont think I need a digitron unless I get one pretty cheap.

I've got a Digatron DT32 with tach and temp leads I'd sell for $75 + shipping. It does tach and cylinder head temp, and records max rpm and temp too.

2 years.
Too busy too actually monitor whilst driving.
Helps me to stabilize idle speeds between both engines and to convert RPM to MPH using a speed calculator.
Records and holds max RPM and can be cleared to see what effect engine mods or drive ratios have on performance from run to run.
I was using a battery operated oscilloscope, but was a little much considering cost (and size) of said scope (Tektronix TDS1002B @ $1200). Similar to this:

I don't know, looks like it's been in a few races for sure. I'm just asking what I paid for it + shipping. It worked great with my Honda GX 280 motor, but it's a little sporadic with the 250 2 stroke motor, might just be a battery getting low, but I really need water temp now, the the DT32 doesn't do water, only cyl. head temp. The lead for head temp goes under the spark plug. I've got a manual for it that I downloaded too.

I just bought a tiny tach off ebay for 20 bucks. I has a battery in it. ALl you so is hook one cable to the killswitch wire or spark plug wire an ground the other to the engine. No power needed and you cant beat the price. The battery cannot be changed however but will last a long time. Also, it updates every 1/2 second so you wont see the actual rpm its spinning, when its spinning that rpm

Off a motorcycle?

How would you hook that up?

Usually just to engines made for them. Your GX would require some pretty serious mods to add a cable drive. If you came up with a 12-volt tack made for a 1 cylinder engine you could power it from a small dry cell battery source. (a 9-volt might just work fine, if not you could wire other types in series to achieve anywhere between 12 and 14-volts)

I know of a tach my buddy used when he used to have a racing lawn mower. It was inductive pickup. But its 12V. So I guess I could always get a 9v battery and a battery holder and do that.
