suzuki intruder shaft drive

Hello everyone, just joined the forum I love it! I have a suzuki inteuder with a good motor that I want to make a cart out of but its shaft driven. Has anyone ever done anything like this? Or converted to chain drive? Any advice or ideas would be awesome! Thanks!

What year is your intruder? I have a 98 that wont run right, and a 440cc two stroke I could trade ya if you're close enough, then you wouldn't have to worry about shifting or the shaft drive.

Its an 87, but its a frame and running motor not much else. And the motor barely runs because i have had it sitting for 10 years. But I got it to fire up last fall

Ah so it's the 700 or 750 I believe. Mine is the 803 and not compatible if I remember correctly. I have an extra 803 on the ground, I think if you pull the cover on the side of the "transmission" where the shaft meets up there is some sort of 90°output shaft, you may be able to remove the 90° parts and mount the engine sideways, build or have built an adapter of some sort to go from that output shaft, likely spline shafts, to a hub for a sprocket. Then you have the headache of routing some sort of shift linkage around the engine and keeping it functional. I've looked at my extra 803 a few times with similar thoughts.
