Has anyone used these? They are speced at 1k max rpm. 15* usable angle. Would 30* of total movement work for a steer axle? How can i calculate the rpm of my axles? My plans involve a 125 dirt bike power pack. And a live front axle with a diff. Anyone have any advise or experience here?

While I commend you on your service to our Country. ..and on filling out a profile. ....I have to say....I have no friggin idea what you are talking about. .and while someone else may have a clue.....you have no idea how vague your question is. .....it would shock me if anyone knew what you were talking about. .......
Anyway. ....welcome to the forum! !!!!!!!

EDIT: Ahhhh.....I type very slowly. ..the post with the link wasn't even there when I started typing......help is probably on the way. .....

My apologies. My phone was dying and i was trying to hurry. The part in question is the 3/4" u joints sold by surplus center. My questions follow (more logically i hope)
Is 15* of turning enough to safely steer? (15* from straight ahead to each side)
How do i figure out the rpm of my axles?
The bike engine produces about 30 hp
My plan is to build an awd kart and im not sure if these joints will hold together under the strain or give my spindles enough movement to safely annoy my neighbors.

While I would file the information away for future reference, without any details of the final design (or even semi detailed scribbles) the ratings on things like these are more like putting the cart before the horse. And if you are going for a four wheel drive design, you probably have bigger design issues that need to be addressed before worrying about small parts......:ack2:

Bloody pesermistuc bunch this lot

Joking

Id say in a front wd or 4wd this is the first thing to work out for sure

Firstbthe good news
Any uni can work at above 15*
Up to 45* itll work

Bad news

The reason cvs are used is firstly they have more flex
But constant velocity is whst it stands for

Uni joints have two intersecting angles and as thet cross over each revolution they speed up or slow down
So u get a pulse

If anyone has ever mentioned phasing to u then this is what it is

First u need 2 unis and they must be phased or inline and at the same angle
Heres a video
https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&...8dBHera_n3ycYbLRg&sig2=Kfj5htZQgxDm78U8kCi7pQ

The problem u have is the diff end is going to stay at the same angle and the wheel end will change
Like in the last example he gave
So u get vibrations in the kart and itll hurt handleing

What u want is called a double canden joint
It is like two mini unis
I tbink the older ford F trycks used them

Scarcely related but
Check this out
Insane thing
Just gotta sell your car if u want a few

The unis will work but only for quite low speeds
