I have an 5hp briggs flathead on my kart and wondering what would be better: to supe it up or get a blue clone.

Depends on how much "hands on" you want to get with it. The B/S flatheads can obviously be made to fly... depends on the amount of $$$ you have. There is TONS of knowledge available for getting more performance out of it on The Web!.... On the other hand, if you want a new motor that runs beautifully out of the box, and will accept mods down the road, I'd go clone. I have 3; -not one has given me any problems, and they're pretty quick. Some guys have yanked the governor and ran them (within reason) without a problem. 2 cents.

Well I have only been picking small engines up this year, though I know the basics; I can take one apart, put one together, know how they work.

I'm willing to learn and depending on how much more powerful it's going to be will dictate how much money I spend.

I can't say I have all that much money to spend. I was thinking about 100 dollars worth of work on it.. could it average off to a clone?

Sometimes the 6.5HP clone goes on sale for $99.

Either engine can be made to run but it just depends what you like better, the good old flathead or the OHV pushrod motor.

$100? I'd just soup it up. But I'd see if you can stretch it to the $150 area... Billet rod ($50), heavy springs ($20), 94ss Cam ($60)

Should get you to the 7-8HP area on gas.

Ehh... Let's worry about the flywheel first. No, it is not safe. A billet 5HP flywheel is about $150... A clone and an aluminum flywheel is $200...

Is there a site like affordablegokarts for briggs flathead parts? Where would I go about looking for them
