I'm a complete rookie starting a kart project with my kids (boy-9 year old and girl-7 year old) for the summer. We picked up a nice kart off Craigslist that has a running 4hp Robin engine. Rear wheels were not attached, just one free spinning hub I removed to keep the axle live, fronts are flat. We started with deconstruction and assessment. Axle is bent, so a new one is on the way. We will be doing more dirt (Vegas desert) than street, so I'm going to replace the centrifigal clutch with a torque converter. Little things here and there will need to be addressed, and since I have no idea what I'm doing, I'll be frequenting this forum for the rest of the summer and beyond. I thank you for the help in advance. Beginning project pictures below.

Man, that poor thing has been abused; did you order new bearings with the axle? Any chance you can post a pic of the whole kart?

Also, I think your governor spring may be a bit stretched & bent :lolgoku:

New bearings and flangettes. The guy I bought it from told me that he thought the wheel was bent, then I found out it was the axle. And yeah, something strange is going on with the governor spring. It was attached to the frame, I assume that was their method of bypass. I honestly haven't even gotten to the engine yet, just getting the frame, axle, and wheels straight first, then on to the more complicated parts. I'll put some whole kart pics up tomorrow.

Here are some whole kart pics. Not sure what kind of kart this is, no markings anywhere that I can see, but then its pretty well covered in dirt/grease. First step is clean-up.
