This is the main reason i am not fond of forum chat rooms.

The other thing I have wintessed, is the fact that a chat module really is counterintuitive to a forum. People who seek advice especially, enjoy being able to get "instant answers". There's nothing wrong with this on the surface, however it hurts a forum in the long term. All these questions asked and answered in real time, are NOT there in threads for future searchers. This, in my humble opinion, is the real value of a forum- archived knowledge.

I think it would be good for general chit chat

But I see a lot of first timers coming on wanting a step by step answer on everything instantly
Then get abusive when they get the usual answer and it's not favourable

Then it gets ugly

OK so in theory it was a good idea but in practicality maybe not . OK new suggestion how about a free hand draw function so if someone needs a picture we could draw it out in the chat box?

We had a chat thing setup on a 3rd party website years ago, it quickly fell into disuse. I'm pretty sure one of the mods set it up.

I've still got 11ty billion random email contacts of people off here from back in the day when MSN was the shizzle.

Felineman, you should edit your email so it's not so easy for bots to pick up or you'l get spammed to death.

What about a Shoutbox? It's not a chat room or something like that. Kind of like a twitter version of a site. It gets put at the top of the front page and anyone could use it (Unlike in the image I posted that's a private Shoutbox). As far as I know some others forums use it. I don't know if it's Java or not but I think it's a setting on the site. If you want a live example just look here. If this was implemented it could probably be put underneated the notices box and above the Announcements & Suggestions section. It even has the ability to give Private shouts. You simply click on a person's name and in the shoutbox it automatically adds the text "/pvt <User's assigner number>" and you can private shout them c:

On the issue about knowledge not being archived for future use. Well if it's a big enough issue where it's something that can't be solved without pictures or needs troubleshooting just ask them to make a thread. The Shoutbox could simply be used for general chat, simple questions that can be answered without having to ask other questions, or asking for their non-active thread to be looked at. If they're shouting (posting) questions that are too vague to answer then simply ask them to make a thread in the section that best suits their situation.

a shoutbox is most likely the most annoying and ressource wasting feature one could install on a vB..

If I have a vote on that one it's
NO ;)

Yeah....I missed out this evening........internet woes.....I've been told that the base jams the airwaves when planes are flying. ......I don't know if it's true or not. ....but I couldn't get here while the Blue Angels were flying? ???

And I have noticed at least somewhat of a connection with bad reception and planes flying next door. ..... ( I'm only about 1/2 mile from the runway)......
