This guy, Ben, who is French Canadian, emailed me a link to his video. I told him to join the forum, but if he doesn't, for what it's worth here's the video! Gave me some laughs and thought it was great.

I'm insanely jealous of his camera skills. (Not so much of the lack of a brake on the kart! Come on, Ben!!! You need a brake!!!)

Just one major problem; he list's at least three different social media outlets that exist just for ego stroking for you to see the actual build. From the way he described it, I would have to join all three.

If that's the only way to see all of it? Other than the YouTube video, his build does not exist for me.

I thought for sure it was a marketing video when I saw it. Really good job he did on the video.

Ok....I've bit my lip long enough. ...yes....very entertaining video....and the young women probably really like it....as the guy is almost as handsome as me......:rolleyes:

But seriously. ...would we not be tearing that build up one side and down the other.......soooooooooooo many things wrong with it.......

But then again. ...I guess not everyone can afford 2×4's and HF wheels......

Ok, the kart itself is a bit of a death trap BUT (& here's the important point), IT COST HIM NOTHING!

My thinking is he's trying to say it's possible to build a go kart (not necessarily a good one) for nothing just by knowing what to look for & where to look...

But :iagree: with Tony, the kart might be not up to local safety standards, but it's done with zero dollars!

So it's still really impressive...
Yes, a welded frame would have been a better decision, and different front wheels (and spindles) would make sense.. not to mention the brake ;)

But think about it.. just those minor modifications and it'd be something we WOULD suggest to repeat...
So another month of sourcing free parts, or maybe 50bucks on ebay and we're good.
I'm still impressed ;)

OK......As previously mentioned. ...the guy is on a bit of an ego trip.....and has definitely taken liberties with the truth.....

Nice fiction story....but if a person will tell a small lie....he may also tell a larger one.......

Either he paid for a lot of that....or he's a thief.....or liar.......

Is it just me????? Or does anyone else wonder where he got so many brand new bolts nuts and washers that collectively add up to more than I paid for a whole kart???????

I'm 57 years old. ....and NEVER came across anything that nice on the curb....and I've been looking for the last 50 years......he//.....I haven't even seen a motor THAT nice in a pawn shop.....

So.....at least bigfoot and the aliens have a kart to ride now.....:rolleyes:

Hey, we don't really know the provenance of all the items. BUT while finding a snowblower is great luck (and having a camera handy....... though that can be recreated later for the sake of storytelling....) isn't unheard of. Who was saying the other day they fixed their neighbor lady's tiller when she was about to just throw it away?

the engine is indeed very nice for a curb treasure..
But who knows; I certainly don't!

I picked up an old Recaro car seat from the curb 20 or so years ago...
(with a slide out thigh support)
slid it out at home to clean the seat (was indeed dirty as you'd expect on a curb ;))
and inside the fold was money.. exactly 1000 Netherlands Gulden (~980 DM or ~500 USD!)
PO's weed money I assume.. too stoned to remember :lolgoku:

So I had my curb treasure... and it was a good one (serious cash!);
I'm not saying he found that snowblower, but how would I dare to say he hasn't??!

You're right about the bolts though.. but frankly who gives a flying shirt? (orange... v-neck :D)
I don't take bolts into account as long as I take them from my stock,
like grind discs, welding wire, sandpaper...
if you buy it you count, if you just take it off a shelf you don't *shrugs*

Oh, that "The 500" wooden steering wheel on ebay is easily worth $200,
he said it's his dad's and was laying around too... I trust him on that ;)
(for 200 he would have gotten better wheels and a cheaper steering wheel ;))

So what should I say.. you might be correct, or you might NOT be :D

It's definitely not a "this is how you should build a kart" video, but it's a cool video nonetheless. I would be terrified to drive that without tightening every bolt about once every 10 minutes, but, your mileage may vary!

Man, lets encourage this kid not beat him up because he does not know any better. You should have seen some of the deathtraps I built as a kid and actually got trapped in them and had to be cut out. :eek: Is it a rolling death trap yes, can we help him make it better yes. Now, kid you did a hello of a job getting it to move now take it to somewhere and have it all welded together. Then we'll help you with brakes and finally the front end.
