Stupid Hollywood myths

Just what the title says. I'm going to start with the old westerners, but there are plenty of them today, so feel free to pick any era.

Just a few: A guy is out in the desert and he's found. Here, (as the hero puts a canteen to his lips while holding up his head). "Easy, not too much...." SAY WHAT??? Gimme that dadgum canteen!!!

A guy is dying,...the vultures are circling waiting for him to die. (They are evil, predicting creatures...) something has to not move for a while before the vultures move in.

Doesn't matter if a guy has fell off a 30' cliff, or shot 6 times, just bring him that canteen, and it'll make a big difference?????

Suppressors!! The only suppressor I own that actually "silences" is my 22lr. It sounds like an air gun. All my other rifles, my suppressors just drop the db level to or within the 130db permanent hearing loss range so you pretty much still have to wear ears for most calibers.

Grenades (or any other high-order explosive) making a giant fireball.

Large, bright, visible muzzle flash no matter what kind of gun... It's just the result of using blank rounds.

Suppressors!! The only suppressor I own that actually "silences" is my 22lr. It sounds like an air gun. All my other rifles, my suppressors just drop the db level to or within the 130db permanent hearing loss range so you pretty much still have to wear ears for most calibers.

You have to use "Sub sonic " ammo. If the bullet travels faster than the speed of sound, it's going to create a sonic boom. No such thing as a "silencer". "Suppressor " is a much better term. You still get a "bang", just much quieter. No pffft...like Hollywood.

Still, you can't blame Hollywood for that, (sorta), because they had to have a different sound or people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

But, ...back to your point, yeah, Hollywood acts like you shoot with a "silencer" (bet that term was coined in Hollywood) you can shoot someone, and 3' away, nobody hears anything. You are correct, they only lower the DB's, (hopefully enough to make hearing protection unnecessary),

Now, here's where we have have to give Hollywood some creative license again, not happening in real life, but the audience needs a visual to reinforce the violence of the device and that it's explosive.

50' feet rope drop does NOT kill you!
it'll hurt you badly depending on a few factors
(do you hit a wall while falling or do you drop from a bridge, what kind of rope, was it a straight drop or was there even the slightest swing by...)
50' is bad, really bad... but I've seen climbers dropping about that coming out in shock and bruised but otherwise unhurt.

Oh and silencers... IDK I've seen a gun channel vid on youtube IDK a couple of months ago they made an acrylic muffler to show how it works on the inside..
aaaanyways... they managed to silence the sound by about 12db IIRC 15db with their top tier product [some fancy geometry stuff, nevermind]..
and - 12db is
~0.025 % of the subjective loudness.. that's not too shabby (each db DOUBLES the acoustic wave pressure... 4db is twice as loud as 3db which is twice as loud as 2 etc...)
So dropping from 135db to 120db is actually a HUUUUGE difference.
~0,0030% of the 'original' sound in fact.
suppressors are of different geometry (mainly to suppress nozzle flash on large caliber rifles)
silencers use the expanding gas in the barrel in front of the bullet to slow down the much more violently expanding gasses BEHIND the bullet (and thus slow down the bullet itself a bit)
But that's the wrong forum for gun talk IMHO..

Walking Dead is one...they are still using cars and motorcycles, yet it's at least 3 to 4 years into the apocalypse, all gas would be bad and would not be good as a fuel, especially any mixture of ethanol. At best stuff from Husqvarna is good for a year.

Or another one from the walking dead (not trying to get political, if it is, please edit this response out) but hardly any main character can hit the broadside of a barn with an firearm. You'd think they would know how to take down enemies with ease, but nope.

One of the greatest laughs I had... Was wen the Gov' was taking out a running target with a m4.... with no rear sight.... And of course caps the guy... No prob...

I think you misunderstood..
that last part was a "personal opinion" not a "moderative advice"

I do not like it so I will not participate much.. that's what I was trying to say

Fluid dynamics..I always try to learn more about it when I can
It helps making non restrictive (or say least restrictive) but silent engine mufflers for karts,
for example
So I was kinda interested.. and frankly the visuals of a highspeed cam and a acrylic 'whatever' is impressive (seeing it shred to pieces in a ball of fire )

Fun fact: Sir Hiram Maxim (inventor of the Maxim machine gun) invented suppressors and automobile mufflers, at that time he called both silencers. Muzzle brakes are nice for reducing recoil on firearms, but they increase the db level of each shot.

Here's one... It takes like 5 seconds to strangle someone to death.

LOL thats a good one! Unless they are under water, they can swim to the top of the ocean out of a boat that is sinking and is 100ft under....but if you're being strangled.. well as you said it only takes 5 sec.

Hmm...I think my favorite myth in Hollywood is that ALL car/truck/motorcycle/etc tires squeal on ANY surface. Take off from grass? Squealing tires. Or off cement in an old beat up car? Squealing.

Or another would be how easily cars can drift. After trying to do some shenanigans on a back road, drifting a sedan is not that easy LOL

Show specific and more modern: Walker, Texas Ranger: The bad guys are shooting at Walker, hitting his truck.

The bullets are going tink tink tink, and sparking.

The race scenes in all of the fast and furious movies. No only do they shift 18,000 times, but a 1/4 mile race takes like 3 minutes in the movie! The cars also look like the millennium falcon when they press the N2O button, as if a little nitrous oxide stretches space and time.
