stretching a kart

Planning on stretching my cart about 18" or so...
Question, its got a standard tube frame, can I just cut off the front and slide a solid rod (with OD matching tubes id) into the frame, then slide a new front end over it as well?
My plan was to drill a few holes every inch or so in the tube in order to add weld spots from the tube to the solid inner rod.
Then I just need to add the spindles, steering etc...

does this seem reasonable? I have decided I dont have time or money to build a hole new one from scratch, I want to stretch mine out a bit.

so if im taking two hollow pipes and connecting them by sliding them over a solid pipe how do I secure it if not by welding? I was planning on sliding the tubes till the butt up against each other... (ie, you wont be able to see the solid rod when done)

I think what slick nick was saying was you can plug weld the pipes together just not every inch maybe like one or two spots on each side of the joint

need some help ordering the correct steering parts, starting with the spindles. Searching around I have found lots of spindle kits, but never a kit with the manco style spring spindles like these

Does a kit exist with these, or do I have to buy the parts individually?
If individually can anyone help me ensure I am spec'ing the right parts that will fit together?

Looking around I found this kit

if I am reading the specs correctly, the manco spring brackets have a 2 3/8 gap (taking into account the 2" spring), the above spindle kits have 2 7/16 vertical barrel which is 1/16 longer then the gap it needs to fit in, which seems like a good setup...

only issue is the steering attachment is set at 90deg instead of 70ish for the correct ackerman setup, but I can modify that if needed.

I appreciate any help, I need to make sure I have the parts picked out before I start cutting the cart since it will be unusable once I start the upgrade.
