Is there a way to reduce the sound of a straight pipe from a HF 6.5 hp engine while keeping the hi flow?

Making the pipe longer or adding a high flow muffler can reduce noise quite a bit. Of couse, adding a muffler wouldnt mean its a straight pipe anymore.

i used to have a 6" long straight pipe on my 6.5 clone. (baja warrior)

i added a 8" piece at a 45 degree angle pointing downward and it is less ear-popping. has a nice deep voice.

also makes a cool noise when you let go of the throttle.

The RLV Mini Threaded Silencer:--> http://www.out2win.com/catalog/4exhaust.html#9 will quiet it down quite a bit without hurting performance.

But with the extra weight hanging out there, you'll wanna build some type of support bracket so you dont rip the bolt-threads out of your head. Here's a pic of the support bracket I built out of Aluminum:
