Hi,

I just got a go kart in brand new condition from the 1990's. I am currently storing it in my sister's garage, however she wants me to keep it outside. I live in florida, so it would need to be protected from the sun/rain. The cold is not a an issue. My concern is that I want to keep this in great condition and prevent damage. Can anyone recommend the best cover or storage option for the outdoors?

Thank you.

Most damage I see from weather is

Sun-vinyl gets crusty and paint fades
Rain- rusty floor pan and low spots where it collects
Mud/debris- collects on floor pan, tires sit in mud and sinks to rims, sprocket and brakes and rims start putting from rust after sinking in the mud

Keep the tires inflated, on a dry surface, and keep the sun/rain out. I'm just glad I got a garage. Good luck!

I agree w/ Grant... and to add to that ...

~90% of karts, left uncovered outside, have issues w/ starting. Alot has to do w/ either moisture/water in the fuel or in the carb. Condensation buildup in the cylinder walls and/or inside the carb, are also another form of uncovered neglect.

The 'best' method Ive seen, round here, of storing a kart outside in the elements is, a towel over the engine, a large cup over the carb intake, whole kart off the ground using bricks/cinder-blocks and a tarp over the whole kart, w/ cinder-blocks holding the corners down.

I would wrap the whole thing in a tarp, and set it up on blocks, make sure the carb is drained, and Stabil in the tank.

Also- seeing as how you are in Florida. You would want the bottom covered too. The moisture rising up from the ground will and could rust the floor pan.

He's in Florida.....storing is probably the wrong term....living would be closer....I'm assuming he means between uses....which shouldn't be that long...

And sun is going to be his worst enemy....but everything stated above is good advice.....the big question is how long the "storage" is going to be.....

I do not have garage so I used roof foil...

It should let "steam" trought and stop water in oposite direction...

And bricks for lifting...

But after only two months on 2yr old unused tyres there was cracks ond tyres side walls...

Thank you all.

I am trying to see how to insert a picture (kind of new at this), but it is an 8HP Briggs Engine on a Manco Frame from the 90's, does anyone know where the oil fill is located? It says it is a 4Cycle.

Yeah...not enough information....first off...if it has a dipstick...that would be the spot.....without one....there should be a plastic round circle with two short nubs sticking up to turn it with your finger and thumb that says oil.....pics would really help,....

There's a sticky here on how to post them.....
