..but yah what poboy said just take photos in landscape mode and be done.

No offense, but is the suggestion that the human with a mind should degrade the quality of posted pictures (not every subject lends itself to landscape orientation) because the software knows better than we do? Or that is it OK for us to go through upload/download workarounds for the same reason?

That is wrong on so many levels.

The computer works for us, we don't work for the computer.

It sure would be nice to be able to upload more than one pic at a time on a cell phone without downloading any apps, just straight from the browser.

This kind of reminds me of blackberry (used to work there when they were a thing). Remember how back before i phones, etc, there was just blackberry? All these shortcuts, only sticking with qwerty keyboard setup, you had to really really dig deep to figure the phone out. They had a proud following "crackberries" and all the management there thought they were the best. It was painfully obvious to see how unchanging and incompatible they were with new users. Super complicated to figure out. So people hated them. Once you got an easier device to work with (iphone, android etc) the blackberry went to the wayside.

What I am getting at is this. For people on the forum here that have been here a while, you know the work around. Get tapatalk, rotate images, blah blah blah blah, upload up to 10 in a single post.

BUT (and this is a huge but) it makes it difficult for new mobile users. I have been looking at some analytics for websites/youtube and mobile just keeps creeping up there, yet this forum doesn't seem super mobile friendly, when even the majority of devices that use this place are mobile.

A lot of the newer people are always posting 1 picture at a time. Not because they are dumb/lazy, but because there is a problem with the way this forum is set up for mobile peeps. The point here is not that it is POSSIBLE to fix/do something, is that the more roadblocks/steps you put in there to accomplish something, the more people you weed out that will give up before they actually succeed in posting pictures. Forum needs to adapt to the user base, or it will become less relevant for new users (and i want it to stay relevant!!!)

Just my 2 cents.

Grant it's NOT the forums fault!
it's simply the iOS causing all images uploaded to rename (on the device) to image.jpg..
thus the previous file with the same name will be overwritten with the latest.

that's common behaviour, and yes.. I think one could eventually build a plugin to rename all uploaded images (say add a counter 0-9 at the end)
to achieve that without much hassle for the user.

But the problem is the iDevice (IDK if androids do the same crap tbh)
it's apples fault; not vbulletins

And don't get me wrong, I'm using an iPhone and I likely stick to that myself.

But just google the issue itself, and you'll find metric tons of threads and support groups all over the world (many on apples support pages even)
addressing just that stupid behaviour (and it's not a bug... it's a FEATURE ).
it happens on every multifile upload script that's NOT custom tailored to fix this iOS issue by arbitrarily chaniging file names.

As if a numbered filename would cause any security issue :(

Truth is, this forum has no inbuild mobile-template which indeed is kindof a shame really.
but there IS a mobile template that renders just nicely on at least most mobile devices (without tapatalk or other plugins like that)

that STILL isn't fixing errors that are not caused by the forum but by the device you are using.

You cannot make a true "one for all" if not "all" devices follow the standards

For those of you paying attention (and been here for very long)...or can recall earlier in this thread, the ONLY way I can get online is with my phone.

If you look at post #15 in this thread, you'll see not only multiple pictures, but 3 rotated ones...(the original correctly oriented one is in post #13.)

I'm sorry if you bought the wrong phones....:lolgoku: JK....(Androids have their problems, too,) ...but posting multiple pictures isn't one of them.

Now...curious question...I don't actually load directly from my phone....but because my phone doesn't have an editor that allows me to shrink pics, I downloaded an app (ImageShrinkLite) to do that. I don't know if that affects the orientation..(I rotated the pics with my phone, but then shrunk them and used the app to load), so I wonder if that would work with an IPhone?

Just a thought.

you can do that with an iPhone too.. a hair more difficult (one more click in the top right corner) ... but it too has an inbuild editor that allows you to rotate, crop, scale, change aspect ratio and even saturation and crap...

I'd rather have nothing but rot.left rot.right buttons as well ;)
aaaanyways it works :D

Thing is: people too lazy/uninterested to take half a second BEFORE taking a pic are also too lazy to take three full seconds AFTER taking said pic.

So an editor might not help at all..
There's a female relative of mine that for example hates the phone display to autorotate
(actually one of the most useful functions for a smartphone)
Reason: pics taken the wrong way around will always be the wrong way around and you cannot compensate by rotating the phone (android btw ... just saying)
So instead of fixing the issue she moans about her pics being uploaded to facepalm (or what'sitcalled) are not oriented correctly.
And she's seen holding her phone upside down to view pics occasionally *shrugs*
it's like talking to a wall :(.

Anywhoo...
sure, a bazillion ways to fix the issue, but all require user interaction..
if your pictures are flipped/rotated or simply out of focus..
it's noboydy but you responsible for that ;)

Sorry, but it's not the tree jumping on the road causing you to crash ;)

That's piss-poor user experience design.

Another example: The fawking computer is smart enough to know you should have dialed a '1', but it's not smart enough to dial it for you.

You don't put the burden of extra steps on the user.

If the user takes the photo in portrait, then just leave it as portrait.

Sounds like you've had a rough life...too bad you can't have EVERYTHING done for you in this world, ain't it?

No....I'm saying you would want someone else to do it for you and whine about how the shoe manufacturer shouldn't let it happen in the first place.

That's totally off base and could even be considered insulting.

I am sure you were just trying to be your persnickety self, though.
