White smoke is caused from burning oil, trust me I know, I burned used motor oil in a engine, and ran my dirt bike to rich, and snowmobile. Theres your problem. Can I get a thank you?

yes but it could just be the engine is cold.

Or the oil is of low quality without the smoke inhibitor stuff.

Or simply alot of oil hanging around in there from having it running at low rpm.

Or even worn piston ring/rings.

edit: i dont think the carb is set rich as he has no airfilter on it and his fuel filter is prob dirty as anyway so if anything its prob running lean of factory settings. Unless somebodys been playing with the carb

What? Blue smoke is burning oil, black and white smoke normally indicates a fuel problem.

Doesn't help when they are mixed together! Haha.

Easy killer, don't be too quick to accuse him of bluffing or not knowing what he's talking about. You might think he's being a schmuck, or you might agree he's actually helping (and I DO see the point). One thing is for certain- you don't wanna call him out on this. Just a word of advice.

I agree with TS here, but could you please just tell him so that he can resolve this issue and not waste more of his time when you know the answer. He's only getting $10 for this.

I would totally disagree, my 400 2 stroke was running on almost pure 2 stroke oil as it had settled in the carb. That was puffing out blue smoke for Africa. :roflol:

If this forum were not here, what would you do? I know the answer to that one.

What is the answer to this one "Russ the Omnipotent"?

I'm going to say I wouldn't own a go kart and would probably not know as much about this stuff as I do now. I would probably be out just living my 17 year old life...oh wait...I do just that already.

Well if i didnt have the forum right now, id be taking it apart and probably screwing it up more.
Im 15 years old and i dont have a years experience with these yet........

Im not the most knoedgeable person on this forum, but i know what an engine is, an i can tell the difference between a carb and exhaust... Well maybe more than that...

I am puzzled with this thing, and thats why i ask. I asked because i know some nice people will reply and try their best to help me. I respect you guys and thank all of you.

Russ, if you know whats wrong, please tell!!

I started it up today w/o exhaust still, and i was able to rev it up nice and high, but it killed under any load at all.

so does the chain not spin when you rev it up?

i hope russ isnt thinking that your oil to gas mixture is wrong because his hint was white smoke. i think we made sure you had it right.

I tried to reset the mixture screws. BTW there is NO PRIMER.

Heres how i reset them:

Davesfarm style. Run them rich, and turn the HSN in until the engine reaches peak RPM running WOT. I have tried this, but it doesnt work.... It runs like crap WOT and as i turn the HSN in, it just starts to lower RPM and die.

Chain spins freely when i rev it. Only without exhaust because with the pipe on the clutch doesnt even get fast enough to engage.

There is no ratio inication, it just says "mix", but shouldnt 40:1 run pretty much universal? At least to an extent?

It seems like a well built engine to me... Im really trying to get this running.. Especially so he doesnt go out and buy something like a poulan!

Well he said if it doesnt work, throw it out.

I wouldnt do that..... But its all there so it must run.
