Steps in my Buggy

So this is my project so far. The guy I am building it for wanted it wider and longer, I told him be better to start fresh being the old frame had a lot of splicing and really bad welds. Being he wasn't building it to sell it, I said lets customize to you.

The only things we kept are the front end and the motor. Motor is a rotax 377.

I am doing more work on it today and will post my progress.
Think im going to bring the front end back a couple inches, just not very appealing to me at this point.

And this is my first build......

Yeah. Good progress! Make sure your welds are excellent, cos with that much power you are going to need a brilliantly strong frame

I am a structural welder if its not 100% pen then its not good for me lol, have had a lot of people tell me I don't need to weld like that but I just let them talk.

There is never a good reason to make a weak weld. You never know when it'll bite you in the ***.

How thick is that sheet metal that you have tack welded on? Is it not heavy

1/8" hot rolled steel.

Does that not add a whole lot of weight to the kart? That would work out to an extra 23kg/m2 of plate. That is pretty heavy!

Aluminum diamond plate for $1.50 lb from the scrap yard is what I use for flooring. Not sure of the thickness, but I make sure it doesn't have a ton of flex.

Steel flooring is just way too heavy. Some people will use diamond steel mesh, which I think isn't strong enough.

Looks like you're stuck with the floor you've got for now. The buggy is looking pretty nice though!

I thought it was going to be pretty heavy myself but it doesn't seem to be to bad at this point.
