Is there any advantages to wider front axle? I've found one that is 52 inches outside of tires. Good or bad? Drive axle is about 48 inches outside.

One possibility:
The full size off- road buggies are often set up this way. Here's the reason: Say you have two trees that are an extremely tight fit to get through, with wider front tires, the fronts could even rub a bit as the back tires push them through, what happens if the back wheels get wedged?
Being narrower, not possible. (If the fronts clear, you're home free.)
