After seeing X4014 Union Pacific Big Boy in person running, part of me likes the idea of a steampunk mini bike. Question is, other than a picture, was such a mini bike actually built?

Other than a homemade steam boiler, I have no idea where one could even source it. I could barely make out what the old article says (reading on a phone is a bit blurry), but it appears to run at 600F and at 450psi...that's a lot of pressure to be near your legs if it were to go boom.

Regardless of any dangers, I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I'm able to zoom in on the photo on my phone.

I might try to convert it to text. It's an interesting story. The guy actually built it.

I use Firefox, opening in a new tab works well for me too.

Any good steam engine does. Pressure = power.

Hobby steam boilers are actually exempt from pressure vessel design and testing regulations. It would seem anyone interested enough to build their own boiler will know enough to be scared enough to overbuild it.

I'm a bit of a steam nut myself. Very cool stuff.

Okay now I can read the dang thing. I was using Tapatalk before. Jumped on to chrome on my phone, and its infinitely better. So judging by the article, it was a converted 2 stroke engine?
