Introduced myself earlier today on the forum, and i figured id start my whole build thread here. Im a total noob and have no clue what im doing here so maybe this will be a good step by step guide. So far i have had a reply from landuse, which pointed me in a direction which gave me some insight about this whole process. http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=11334 thats his thread. Another thread which i found extremely helpful was robertdjung and his parts list is helpful you can find that here: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1364
To reiterate my build, im looking to build a custom chopper with a 3hp Briggs and Stratton Engine and i believe it is 127cc. The bike plus me im guessing will weigh around 250 pounds, that is a little overestimation but i weigh anywhere from 170 to 190.
The area which i live is somewhat hilly especially around my house, but i have easier choices of climb. Which brings me to my first main question centrifugal clutch or torque converter.
I have been noticing that many people recommend 40/41 all the way around. So i guess im going to stick with that. Im also wondering about gear ratio. Many sources ive found say 6 to 1. While browsing around in Northern Tool today, i found 40/41 clutches with 10 teeth, which leaves me to a 60 tooth gear on the wheel. i did also find a 12 tooth clutch but they were all 35.
Any suggestions on the transmission at this point would be helpful.
As of now the only problems i see myself facing mainly are dealing with the front fork mainly finding one that will work as i intend, and finding the right parts for the rear end such as the axle, wheel, hub, and gear. Any insight here would be much appreciated as well. As mentioned earlier i am a total noob and these posts are probably explained else where, but i figured why not a one stop shop here
