Hey all need some help I recently bought a Briggs and Stratton engine pics are down low this engine along with another kart motor and frame for $75 not a bad deal but the problem I'm having is I can't get them to start... I have or course cleaned the crap out of the carb wasn't getting spark so I changed the ignition coil and plug and am getting spark now as well as gas but I won't start I have tried starter fluid still nothing is did however start for about 10 min then on and off for a sec or two but after that nothing. Please help.

Its not actually a fun power the other engine is I just have that cover over it because I have to fix the pull string on the other but I have tried both engines and nothing the guy I got them from said they worked when he put them up.

Check and see if the kill switch wire is pinched somewhere, or maybe chaffed and keeping it from sparking.

Nope.....he says he's spark......I would replace the spark plug just because. ....

Remove the air filter. ....shoot some starting fluid in it and give it a try. .if it runs for a short time. ....you still have carb problems. ....if not....most likely a timing issue. ....maybe a sheared flywheel key. ....or someone messed with it and put it back together wrong. ....

EDIT:BTW- My money is on fuel delivery. .....

I cleaned the carb put a new plug and ignition coil on it now its is starting but its not staying started it dies shortly after. With that said the gasket where my gas tank meets my carb is leaking gas pics ate below of it could that be why its won't stay started?

I'm thinking of just replacing the carb it had been setting for 13 years so its in need of either replacing or serious rebuild.

It been cleaned I dipped it in card cleaner for about 45 min as well as blew it with air and used the a can if carb cleaner for a little over kill but I didn't get the stuff to rebuild it because I didn't have the money at the time but I think I'll go ahead and try that unless you think it just needs replacing?
