Hi, I haven't checked out this forum for a few weeks, but where can I post pictures and other documents on diygokarts.com?

Here is the direct link where someone else keeps the gear reduction starter motor modifications page:

http://www.geocities.com/hempev/plans.html

I used many elements of this info to modify my starter. BTW - this is the same link listed on my tripod.com webpage.

K guys, I have a document that is the same thing as what was on the forum. I made it into a PDF because a word document would have been about 2 Megs in size! the PDF is only like 240KB. If you want it, PM me your email and I'll send you a copy.

:toetap05: Ok, oscaryu, I'll try to be nice about this. I think you need to read a little deeper into threads to find the information you want. If you were too look 11 threads before THIS one, you'll find the answer to your question.

Hello Rob_fed,
I am following the diagram that you suggested on both your web site and this blog DIY Go karts. I am building a go kart for my kids out of PVC same as you have done. We are having a great time with it especially because they can participate due to the fact that there is no welding needed. I have two questions for you my friend. 1. According to the web page instructions, you have to cut the solenoid off of the starter engine.. I understand this, but what I do not understand is that the solenoid is where the connections for the battery went.. so how do I reconnect the power? As far as I can see there is only one connection to the motor. do I need only one connection? Do I weld/attach the positive end to the existing connection and then weld/attach the negative end to the housing somehow? What did you do? Question 2. While dissasembling the housing, I inadvertently removed the armature from the brushes. Since the brushes are spring loaded and stick out further than my armature is narrow, how do I get it back into the housing? The brushes are in the way. Is there a way to push them aside while I place the armature back in? (Update: I was able to push the brushings all the way back, they remained there until I placed the armature back in place, then I just had to knock on the housing to bring them back to the spring loaded position) I really want to get this working for my kids and would greatly appreciate any help that you can provide.

Hi guys I'm a newbie so any mistakes will be forgiven (hopefully).

I'm working on the DIY starter motor for go-kart, but I ran into a few questions, as I'm not using it for a go-kart per-se, but for a sort of segway, so my questions are:

1.-After the modification on the page, will the starter motor turn slower than it will normally turn or just at the same original speed?

2.- In case it does turn at the regular speed can I somehow reduce the speed other than with mosfets? (say for example taking two brushes off like what happens on windshield wiper motors that there is a third brush for slower speeds?)
