That is a good tip, stainless will absorb the steel and rust. I dedicate grinding discs and wire wheels (stainless wheels only) for stainless and write "SS" on them.
Getting back to the original Question.
See Guys I think in this Case the Stainless is just what Joe happened to have lying around.
Not that he really really wanted the look of Clean Stainless Parts.
So my question is If you just need to weld it. Can you use your standard wire fed mig flux core welder. Forget rust and warping for a minute. Will it actually stick the 2 pieces of stainless together?
Did a little stainless welding just to show how a weird job can be done easily. Tube is 409 from a patio heater and the bottom plate is 304l plate 1/8" food grade stainless. Thought the tube would be 304l as well but a magnet sticks to it ever so lightly. Used 3/32 4057 rod with my 80amp harbor freight DC inverter stick/arc welder at 65/70 amps. Did 8 beads with 4 corners to begin and 4 fill in welds starting and stopping on the beginning and end of the first 4 welds. This keeps from having leaks at the start and stops.
agreed.. tri-mix for mig.. 308 for SS to SS and 309 for SS to CS. im tigging a stainless framed drift trike, the gusseting required to strenghen the frame is daunting. im going to finish with wire feed. 110v fluxcor with tri mix. dual shield. low amps and slow wire speed, thin wire. make sure to practice practice practice. good luck!
