Can wheel hubs be square and still be balanced?? The reason i ask is because I can cut steel squares easily and have my work drill and tap the holes

G'day I'm not sure if they would be very balanced, what I would try and do is get an angle grinder and shape it like a circle unless you have access to a lath off course =D
But yeah, not so sure that square would be too healthy so I hope you have an angle grinder handy ;) cheers mate

Unless you're going over 35mph i doubt you'll notice the imbalance. You could also spin the axle and run a file until it rounds out like a lathe.

there's no reason why a square would be any more unbalanced than a circle. unless the square is not really that accurate

The way I look at it is as long as everything is the same on each side it would be balanced right?

Its still balanced because it is still symmetrical. As long as it is centered like he just said above.

I wanna respectfully disagree, a square drive shaft = 45mph vibrations, and a circle drive shaft has no problem.....I say this from experience of riding in a classmates Toyota, he had 38 inch boggers and showed me the drive shaft difference between the two. I still didn't believe him lol, so we fabricated a square piece of steel to fit on a angle grinder and switched between that and a fabricated circle and the result was a noticeable vibration difference. But for a cart, you will be ok.
