Hello, I have read that if I upgrade my sprokets to a bigger one in the front and smaller one in the back then I will gain more top speed. I currently have a 13Tooth in the front and 40Tooth in the back. I have read not to go crazy with the upgrading. Any opinions on this? Maybe a 16tooth in front and 37 in back? I am just trying to get more top speed without losing a LOT of torque. Thanks! Also, I ahve been looking at scooterpart.net for these sprokets, anyone know where they get their mini chopper parts?

First of all, are you talking about a kart or minibike. Are you using a centrifugal clutch or TC. If you have a kart with a centrifugal clutch, I am surprised that you can even get moving with a gear ratio of (40/13) = 3:1. That is crazy high. With a ratio like that you probably have not much torque and are doing some serious damage to your clutch. No way can you even think of gearing any higher. If anything, you are going to have to gear lower.

With a TC, this is still a very high ratio, and I wouldn't go any higher.

If you have a minibike, things might be a little different, but I doubt it. The numbers you have give us are just plain too high.

Post some pics of what you have

I would not suggest gearing any higher than what you have now. I am actually quite surprised that your chopper even functions well. You might even find that if you gear lower (smaller engine or larger axle sprocket), you might even gain a little speed and torque. This could be because your high gear ratio at the moment is not allowing your engine to reach its full potential.

What engine do you have at the moment. A 6.5HP?

What sproket sizes do you suggest? My chopper runs great at the moment, its a mini chopper with a 4 speed lifan type motor, 125cc and 4 speed tranny. I can go around 40mph at the moment and I have plenty of power. I didnt put the the 6.5 on, its still brand new in the box, I am gonna sell it on ebay. The engine I have is actually a QIYE 125cc. I was looking at Lifan motors yesterday, a 125cc and a 140cc. I dont want to spend that much money if its not going to make me any faster, so i read that all I have to do is mess with the sprokets.
