Hi all i am new here. I just inheirited a go kart from my father in law who past away unexpectedly. I need some help with sprocket selection for jackshaft and axle sprocket, here is the setup. Its a carter go kart 1708-h , has been retrofitted with a honda gx 240 , comet 40 series torque converter , i just got new pillow blocks for the jackshaft and everythingunexpectedly has been torn down cleaned and lubed, i m problably gonna run a 20" or a 22" rear tire. I has a 12t jack sprocket and a 54t axle sprocket that are different pitches. I am just curious what tooth sprockets i should run, i m going with a 40 or 420 o ring chain, do not plan on climbing hills or anything like that. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanx

Keep the tire size down if you can. A 20 or 22 is really going to tax that engine. The CVT is a lovely thing, but there's only so much it can do for you. I'm not sure where R97 got "40" from, but you're going to be hard pressed to achieve it with a stock gx 240 and 22" tires. Certainly won't have an abundance of torque. If you got, say, 18" tires and shoot for 6:1 gearing, you can hit a projected 32 MPH. However- these figures are pure theory. If the enging doesn't have enough oomph to pull 3600 under that load, you simply won't go that fast.

To achieve 6:1, get a 10 tooth sprocket for the jackshaft and 60 for the axle, or keep the 12 tooth on the jackshaft, and get a 72 for the axle.

PS- Sorry about your father in law, I just went through that last year with my wife. Never easy.
