In my Klipperkarts, Sidewinder I have a 420cc Predator with 22"x11" rear tires, a torque converter, 10 tooth drive and 60 tooth axle sproket. I want to gear it lower so I have more acceleration. I'm looking at putting a 65 or 70 tooth sprocket on the axle. Will something like this work on my 1"x.25" keyed axle?

Any opinions on what gear ratio? I want great acceleration. I'm going to use the kart to pull some chain link fence to drag the yard too. I'm also not concerned about having a high top speed.

Thanks

If it is a 1" axle it'll work... but the hubs correspond with the sprockets being used...
So find a sprocket you want to use then find a hub to match in the right axle size.

personally I think you'd rather pick a 6 hole hub
http://www.bmikarts.com/Aluminum-Sprocket-Hub_p_1379.html

that's meant to also take split sprockets.
http://www.bmikarts.com/Azusa-4041-Chain-Sprocket-Split_p_3654.html

but that's just my personal favour than anything else ;)

ratio (lowering the ratio as in your case) is completely up to you.
but keep in mind that at one point there will be no further advantage from lowering the ratio, since the TC will start to compensate and gear higher internally.
If your series 40 allows, you could first try to preload it in it's torque setting (third hole)
that way it'll delay the upshift slightly... maybe that already helps and you do not have to spend any money at all.

The price for the 6 hole hub and the sprocket is more than I want to spend. I have adjusted my torque converter to the 3rd hole. If I can't find something in my price range I'll just get another 60 tooth.

BMi might not be the cheapest option...! just saying

I've seen similar hubs for 25 and sprockets for around 30...

For my kart I took my old sprocket and hub and centered and bolted a new bigger sprocket on it. Then I had them welded together. This will waste the old sprocket but you won't have to buy a new hub. I wouldn't do this if you plan to use te 60 tooth for something else.

You could otherwise bolt it aswell...... Then to adjust the alignment only need to file the holes slightly to get it perfectly aligned, if not done on the initial layout...

Can you not fit a smaller sprocket to the TC driven? Simply swapping from a 10t to a 9t takes the ratio from 6:1 to 6.6:1...

I realise you want more than that (somewhere around 8:1) but, you get the idea...

A 72t axle sprocket & 9t drive sprocket will give you 8:1
A 60t axle sprocket & 8t drive sprocket will give you 7.5:1
