Sprocket & Clutch problems

Soo, I just got my sprocket and put it on my wheel. When I mounted my engine to the frame I noticed the centrifugal clutch was connecting to the sprocket directly without a chain.

I'm wondering if its ok to leave it like it is and if I do will there be a downside to having this kind of setup? My other option was to use a spacer to prevent this.

Yes, thats exactly it. And was thinking the samething, it didn't sound good when I turned the wheel anyway. Any ideas to make it higher? I was thinking about putting some big nuts under the engine.

That's one way to do it. Just make sure that the motor can't shift on top of them, throwing your chain alignment out.

You can also use some steel square tubing to build the motor mount up a bit.

The teeth should not be touching at all. They should be a little distance away from each other. Your wheel sprocket actually looks a little too big. Am i imagining things?

I was thinks about putting something under the engine like that, right now I have 1" bolt spacers and like you said ill probably be better off with some kind of frame I can bolt under the engine.

Nope! My sprocket is too big. Its a bout 1" bigger than what I was hoping to get. XD

I would if the sprocket didnt cost an arm and a leg :mad:. I'm going to buy bigger tires when the next opportunity came, meaning the next time I'm near a Tracktor Supply. :roflol:

What are the tooth counts on your sprockets? If you are geared correctly at the moment, or a little high, then getting larger tyres might mean that you throw your gearing out of whack, and you will have to resort to getting a larger sprocket anyway.

Just remember that getting larger tyres is nearly like gearing higher, and clutches sometimes don't like that

How many teeth are on the clutch sprocket? You really should use a big piece of square tubing to mount the engine to. Like a 5"x3" rectangle piece about 8" long, at least 1/8" thickness wall. The 8" will allow you to make tracks to slide your motor forwards and backwards to adjust the chain tension.

I do not think that is going to work out for you. With a 53 tooth sprocket at the moment, you will have a gear ratio of 5.3:1 (provideed your clutch is 10T). That is pretty high as it is at the moment. With 14" tyres you are going to burn out your clutch. You will definately need to get a larger axle sprocket with those size tyres.

So how big should my sprocket be with 11" tires and 14" tires???

With 14" tyres, I would go for at least a 7:1 gear ratio, which would mean something like a 10T clutch and 72T axle sprocket. You should be good with the diameter of the sprocket. Look at these links to check.

Out of curiosity what is "an arm and a leg" that you paid for sprocket ?
$50 plus 2 weeks of shipping and about 3 hours of getting the sprocket to fit around the axle = one arm and leg. ($50 for me is a pretty chunk of change out of my pay check.)
