Hi all-
How hard would it be to make a Spidercarts' Arachnid (picture below). I have some basic welding skills and a welder but I wish to improve my skills. I also have access to a full machine shop with a lathe, plasma cutter, mill, drill press, miter saw and ban saw. I have good technical abilities and have been working on 120+ lbs robots for the past three years. I don't have the biggest budget (About 1,300 US), but I may be able to go a little above that or give up some luxuries. Thanks for your feedback,

-BAM

I will be building the GrandDaddy, but making it a one
seat buggy, basically just centering the seat and steering,
I was told that for my weight and height, around 250 pounds,
and close to 6 foot tall, that I would likely have to stretch
the buggy 6 to 8 inches, use a 13hp to 16hp motor, and
a 40 series clutch, using that clutch that also meas using
a jackshaft, I my try something like a " Jackshaft Motor
Mount Plate" to simplify things a little.

Another thing I wanted to add is, that the metal the plans
call for is pretty thin, I asked about using thicker metal,
for easy-er welding, and from what I gather it would
make the buggy way to heavy, I have been welding for
years, but all I use is a stick welder, and a stick welder
is not the ideal welder to use on thin metal, it can be
very challenging, I would suggest a wire welder if you
dont already have one, I am actually thinking about
buying a wire welder for this project, but that would
leave me with no money for the buggy LOL

Hope this info helps a little.

Just to let you know there are three or four threads in this forum of builds of this same kart( arachnid) do a search in the search box and they should help you a ton when you build it... they had a lot of problems during there build so i would strongly recomend reading through there builds..

GOOD LUCK CANT wait to see it

I bought both the Viper Offroad Kart Plans from
easykarts.com, and the GrandDaddy plans from
spidercarts.com, I liked the GrandDaddy plans
better, I have also seen the plans for the SideWinder,
Taipan and Piranha from edge.au.com, they seem a
tad more complicated, and harder to follow than the
GrandDaddy plans, and are made for larger motors
but I have seen a web page with the SideWinder modified
for a smaller motor, over at

Hartman's Modified Sidewinder Dune Buggy

After seeing that Modified Sidewinder, I am thinking about
buying the Sidewinder plans, and making something similar
to that modified Sidewinder, but that will be later after the
GrandDaddy, plus my credit card wont work overseas, so
I can't buy them for now anyway
