hey welcome to the forum!

as far as I know, I haven't seen or know of any companies that make super customized go karts that aren't sold as complete kits for retail. most of the ones I've seen on youtube are project go karts that are chopped up, renforced frames, fabricated motor mounts, with some other engine from a streetbike, dirtbike, snowmobile, or car... etc... you can try contacting them to see if they can build you one but I know its going to cost some serious money if they do!

not sure on how much you are willing to spend but racing go karts like shifter and non-shifters alone start from $2500 to $5500 and up. I'd expect seeing some crazy price to have one custom build, just for the labor, time, and materials.

your best bet is to find a used frame (ex. craigslist or ebay) get an engine that suits you and will be happy with, get some racing go kart wheels, also the rest of the steering assembly and everything else like bearings, axle, and brakes... etc... draw out the plans and build it yourself (if you have the tools and know hows) or pay someone to weld or put it together for you?

others on this forum may have better tips but here are some links that use for my personal racing gokart and homemade "might help you in the right direction" the rest is up to you to do some research

hey thanks for the fast reply.

well you have good points, you are right cheaper if i try to do it my self, just dont know where to start even i get the chasis and engine and stuff.

think it is best i buy a used chasis, and find a used dirt bike or street bike engine.

but my first thing is finding a used chasis, do you know where i can buy one? most of those on ebay you have to pick them up, they dont ship. so maybe some body know a good buisness that might have some used chasis for sale at some good prices, looking for one under $1000 would be good or cheaper.

so let me know

If I was you, I would find myself an old go kart frame. Just fix it up yourself. If you know how to weld, you could turn a hunk of junk into a big, strong, and sturdy frame, then build up from there.

I personally love doing things myself. Buying a frame and everything else all ready assembled is no fun.

:iagree:

It's so much more fun when you can build something in your image. Sure it's quicker to get it partially assembled, but just the satisfaction you get from the effort you put into making something totally out of raw material makes it all worthwhile. Does that make sense?

I have wanted a go-kart since I was 10 years old. I had seen ads for used ones in a local classifieds magazine called "Pennysaver" when I was younger, but my parents never bought me one. Cheap too at only $100.

Now that I have the tools and funding to do it myself, I decided to take on the project of building my own completely out of scratch.

do you know if i need to buy one of those used shifter karts, for this 600cc engine to work?

i see nothern tools or azuaza site site sells these chasis kits for like $600 brand new. would this kit hold up?

or do you think it is better to buy a used race kart?

Hmmm, I would think you're better off trying to get a used race kart frame if you're planning on putting in a big motor. Most kits that I've seen are made more for small engines and they're made more for fun than serious racing, unless you can find one that's made with it in mind. Plus, if you don't have too much experience with building or modifying a frame, (I don't), butchering a brand new frame might not be the cheapest way to go, especially if you mess up.

yes that is why i want to buy a good used race kart, so i at least i dont have to chop up to much, and at least those kart i think will handle the load. i dont have experience either in building anything , but was going to have a weld shop do any welding i might need done. was watching the pic from the guy on this site that build his with the 600cc cbr engine . but i just need to find the chasis and if i need to buy one with the shifter on it. anobudy know any business where i can buy a used race karts ?

you could buy the metal spend about 75.00 and weld up the frame the way you want 75.00 would buy you enough metal i would use at least 1 1/2 tubing on that. thats what ill be using when i start the 1000cc project at the end of summer.

I found some used ones on craigslist.org but I'm not sure where you are from? so that depends on whos selling in your area, most people won't ship but you might get lucky? even if you do get a race frame or not, you'd still need to do some sort of renforcing. 600cc CBR engine weighs a lot more then a 125cc rotax go kart engine. imagine the load you're going to put on just the rear of the go kart? oh and btw, you don't need a shifter go kart to have a shifting 600cc CBR go kart. you'll need to get the original tranny from the engine you're installing.

anyhow, here's some sites that might help you find a new frame if you can't find a used one?

I'd decide what engine first and buy it, if I were you. then take some basic gokart frame plans and do what ironman suggested and weld it up. (pay someone to have it welded, if you don't have a welder)
......buy the metal spend about 75.00 and weld up the frame the way you want 75.00 would buy you enough metal i would use at least 1 1/2 tubing on that......

Hey hotboy i just joined this forum for the same SICK REASON: BUILDING A 600cc or 1000cc KART WITH A CUSTOM FRAME.
The idea came of course after seeing the videos on youtube...
I've never done anything like it BUT owning a classic 1974 Alfa Romeo Giulia Gtv2000 i think it's gonna be easy.
To have something like this custom built would be very expensive , i suggest getting a 220 amp MIG welder and start practicing , you'd be welding in 5 secs , IT's SO EASY!!
Get some plans and make a model of what you gonna built.
Get a crashed 600cc or 1000cc engine from a sport bike.
I think it will roughly go to 3000-4500 euros including bike engine.
The acceleration would be F1 level haven't checked weight/hp ratio but could be even faster than F1 hahahahaha!!!
CRAZY!!
-PM me- anything you need buddy, the project begins with photos, details etc at the end of summer- i'm working on a torn up shock absorber on the alfa right now.

The date to each post is located in the upper left of it. If you much use the search function or go into the bowels of the forum to find a relating article, don't post. Please read Posting and You! as said above. Also, if you want to sell something, first, build up good reputation so that you will not be seen as a possible scammer. If you are selling, post in the for sale section.

Yeah, we probably use a few more moderators. Our current ones don't seem to be around any more. We don't really need them though, just better guidance to newbies.

Thanks
