Bringing this back from the dead. I want to run a live axle as I plan on mostly dirt and off road use, however if I want to mess around on pavement a little, I figured I could take a key out of one side.
One issue that came to mind was wear. I figured a good plan would be to hone the hub for clearance and crosshatch pattern to retain lubrication, de-burr the key way edges, polish the axle where the hub will ride, and use a good moly based grease. What do you all think ?
The other issue is brakes. I plan to run a single rear disc, and if one key is out, that means only one tire has stopping power. Is this going to be enough stopping power ?
I don't plan to get real serious with it on pavement, so no hardcore cornering or serious braking will be required, it just has to be able to stop alright when I take key out of one side.
