Okay, thanks to a lot of patience, and a lot of advice from you fine people I’ve finally gotten to the point where this rusty, dusty go kart is working (to an extent) again. I asked recently about chains and that is still my problem, so I’ll give a quick rundown since my last post. Got the right chain for it, ordered and installed the new 12T sprocket onto the jackshaft, new chain was also skipping/throwing off after about 30 seconds. So I decided to put the old chain back on with the new sprocket and now the chain works fine so long as I don’t accelerate into a turn. Of course this being a go kart and me being me I want to be able to throw the back end of this kart around a corner and get a little drift going. At this point the sprockets are lined up just right, the driver and driven are lined up just right as well. Any ideas for me now? I’m at the point now where I just want to scrap the chassis and put the motor on something else, but I’m willing to give it one last go, hate for all my effort to be in vain now lol

Howdy :)

How about some pics of your kart :cheers2:
...especially the motor mount
...& drive train areas

Almost sounds like something (motor, mount jackshaft axle etc.) is loose
...or flexing a little bit

Maybe even loose bushings/bearings in the jackshaft(?)

I certainly will as soon as I get near it, but that’s the first suggestion outside of properly aligned that I’ve heard in awhile. I’m not gonna get ahead of myself so I’ll send the pictures soon but you might be onto something with the bearings and or the jackshaft being loose, I can’t say for 100% either way though. Get back soon appreciate you

There's a reason I didn't broach that subject with you before.............There were much more basic things you needed to eliminate first, ie; matching chain and sprockets' sizes to all being the same, and aligning everything perfectly. Myself would've gotten confused with an overload of possibilities all at once. Now we can talk about flexing................
No, not you, Hercules. It sounds like your kart is flexing in the way that loosens the chain, under load, or under cornering, or just under your own weight. Doesn't matter which, you need to stiffen the kart.
Chances are that even with the kart being run while up on blocks and such for testing, you won't see the little flex when you apply motor power, because of no resistance to the motor's pull on the upper part of the chain. (Bottom part of chain loosens up and slacks a little under load.) All you'll know is that chain tension/alignment is perfect in the shop, but it jumps off (only) when riding, then is perfect again after you stop.
Go back to your "Me again" thread and reread my #2 post about that.
I agree with F.A.'s post about seeing some pics of your kart, we need that to really help. I'm taking your word that the drivetrain matches, and is aligned, so my main concern is seeing the motor mounting and the frame overall.

Tried to get good angles of the alignment hard to do with how tricky pictures can be lol first one is the view from behind the 12T you can see where the axle sprocket is

So I will double back and deal with the new chain if need be, also one more question, if use a lock washer on the bolt that mounts the sprocket to the jackshaft would I need to put one on the other side where the mounting bolt holds the belt pulley to the jackshaft as well?

Lmao I’ll go ahead and put the new chain on it in that case😂
Also skip using any master links. Use a chain break or a hammer and punch to push the pin almost out until you can separate the link. then remove what you need and push the links back together and hammer the pin back in. even #35 chain is no problem doing donuts in a parking lot miles from home. I broke a #35 chain master link about 3 miles away from the house. there weak and snap easy. it also can in some cases fix the chain to tight one more link makes the chain to loose situation on anything with a mount that isn’t slotted for adjustment.
