I see name brand, single strand, #35 chains getting beat on by 25+hp engines....... Why did you think over complicating things by running a #35-2 chain would be better? Where did you get the clutch from? If you're worried about tensile strength, why not step up to a #50 or #60? .......

It's not the clutch its on my jack shaft to axel . I'm looking because that's what it had on it when I bought it

Decided to go with #50 roller chain. I can get both sprockets & the chain cheaper than what it costs for just one double strand sprocket

Post a pic of your setup.
On my bike, on the jackshaft, I run a single #35 chain from clutch (in) and the same (out) on single chain sprockets. 1" bore keyed hubs.
I think I'm running the heaviest JS here on DIYGK, or at least of the top contenders.
A single will be more than sufficient for your needs and much cheaper.

Just because that's what it had don't mean that's what it needs.....
Post a pic of your kart,please. It most be one big @$$ contraption to need that kind of chain...... Or you're WAY over thinking it.......

You could have said that to begin with. I would have looked for your sprockets a different way..... Instead of looking for standard type sprockets...... This is why posting ALL the important info is necessary......

This is why you ask all your questions in the same thread..... All the needed information is together. Had you asked this question on the other thread, I would have known it was a SNOWMOBILE jackshaft and not a typical KART jackshaft....

Need help with gear ratio

Building a kart 496.7 cc engine with original chaincase and original clutches. 22 tooth sprocket and a and a 38 tooth sprocket in the chain case. I'm also using 18 inch tires. What size sprocket do you think I should I have on my jack shaft and rear axle

He cut the jackshaft out of the snowmobile.....
Again, if this was asked in the other thread, where the REST of the info is, you wouldn't be confused...... I wasted an hour looking for a sprocket for his "jackshaft "..... Only to find out later it was a SNOWMOBILE jackshaft...... :surrender:

what size chain do you think would handle the motor its a 503 fc specs say it has about 57 hp

DID (or equivalent name brand) #40 or #41 or even #420 or #520...... The difference is the quality you get from DID (at a cost) versus the cheap bulk made low-medium quality chain we buy from like BMI and ebay....... Wow! 3' of #40 on ebay for $12!! Or $60+ for a DID....... Which one do you think will last longer?
I can tell you from experience, that my old clapped out gs600 had a lot more than 37hp and the stock chain was a DID #420...... If you don't know, a gs600 was/is the little brother to the gsx600.....otherwise known as a gixxer...... :thumbsup:
