snowblower engine summer use

I have a 5 horse Briggs from a snow blower and was wondering if I need to do anything to use it in the summer. Take off engine snow sheilds?

Tune the carb, at a filter kit to it, possibly an oil change to a heavier weight (5-30 or 10-30 would be optimum). Snowblower engines aren't designed to run in arm weather so you may have some shutdown issues if you overuse it, but do those things and you should be good to go.

that's what i'm wondering. a 5hp Briggs will run in warm weather or cold weather and if anything its going to have problems running in the cold.

Wow i put a new predator on my snowblower but it didnt let me know if it had the chills. When i put my other snoblower engine on a mini bike i didnt notice any profuse sweating.

Depending on how ****** the engine was made there are some overheating issues that've happened. Example: '79 Ariens w/a 8hp Tecumseh hated weather above 80*. '92 Ariens /w a 13hp hated anything over 80*. The MTD I have w/ a 13hp Briggs will run in summer time, but needs to be adjusted to compensate for the thinner air.

Air filter is a must. Carb SHOULD be adjusted to compensate for thinner air density. Oil... well just because it's a good habit to keep.

Thinner air density? Wouldn't that be more of an issue at higher elevation? Not saying your wrong or anything but I've ran lawn tractors in all seasons even in -10F temps with only some major cold staring but that's just the nature of cabureted engines. Other than a air filter this engine should be good to go.

Oil wise I'd go full synthetic. And have it changed every 25 hours or so depending on vintage of engine. If you can find an owner's manual for the snowblower/engine I'd refer to that for intervals.

In several decades of being involved with small engines (hobby and business), this is the very first time I'm hearing about such issues. I submit that any problems you may have had were inherent in those particular engines to begin with... and had nothing to do with so called winter/summer built engines.

The original 5hp Briggs engine I performed this surgery on also came off of a snowblower.

thanks for idea Russ, might do it someday ,but not anytime soon. I'm just getting into the hobby of small engines
