Anyone ever put tracks on the back of a kart before? Or built something from the ground up? I did a few searches and couldn't finding on it, I want to build or modify one of my current karts or ice fishing the Coming winter

Anyone can go out and buy a snowmobile, I have 2 myself, just want something different

I hear ya Quad-tor, I'm the same way. While I haven't seen or heard of anyone converting a gokart to treads I did some brainstorming on a simular idea. I was going to build a hotrod mini snow buggy with a 12a ****el rotary engine driving it. A single seater mini sand rail type of body with long travel suspension up front with skis and a wide track or tracks on the back. The problem I thought would come up is the skis pushing when trying to turn withtwo tracks on the back. I figured I could design a tank steering type system but figured it would be easier to go with one track... which would basically end up just like a snowmobile. I figured I would have to redesign a snowmobile track and suspension to get the height and stance I was looking for or designing and making my own. Turns out, the suspension and tread designs are friggin' complicated when you take everything into account and I scrapped the plans since we don't get huge amounts of snow long enough to make it worth it to me.

Maybe the skis will dig enough to turn the kart just fine since the drive treads will be on snow and easier to break traction on one side when turning? I think it would be cool though.

I have a friend who built some kind of snocat thing using hydraulic pumps a while back. It was neat, but we only ever got it to go like 20 mph.

That might be all he needs! Driving 60 mph in 10° temperature to get to the fishing hut ain't exactly COMFORTABLE!

We have gear for that though lol, and an actual snowmobile can be had for 4-500 bucks, which is why Kevin's neat, but highly ineffective SnoCat thingy got parted and scrapped.
