Im not to sure how to start this.. but ive been building it on off for a couple of months.
Its a small caterham style chassis that will be a single seater for my little girl when shes bigger.
I got the frame 75% complete.
Its made out of 20mm square tube. and welded together with a hobby mig

well my plans are:

Suspension - all round indipendent, coilover type shocks, off a pit bike or mouintain bike lol.

Drive train - Rwd shaft driven, but may need to use a chain off the engine to a larger spocket for the prop.
rear diff will be basic no smaller gears yet, the crown wheel is 54T and the pinion is 15T.
Also thinking about doing a forward and reverse box. but ill post a pic of my idea. but i want to keep it all automatic.

Brakes - discs all round, possibly mini moto ones with the cable type caliper. depending on how the wheels will turn out, i might just use scooter moped ones.

Engine - 2 stroke brush cutter motor.
power 1.3hp
Max rpm 8000
33cc of love

im not to sure how powerfull these are but i was considering getting another one because it was cheap and putting the two inline. and then electric starter :arf:

Body - will be sheet aluminium for the sides and floor, then fiberglass for the rest of the body.

Time for pics of progress so far.
checking how wide the front would be

Quick layout of some of the tube

part of the front welded up.

rosejoint upper arms. painted roughly for now.

Most of the lower deck welded up.

Rear strut towers welded. waiting on sorting a diff casing design out before i weld the upper arm brackets on.

Some of the top deck welded.

little tester with the wheel next to it for scale.

Its an 8" trailer wheel, but it might be too small, and the tyre size will look rather chunky so i mite get a 10" scooter wheel with a lower profile tyre. then get 4 of them cast up with a nice spoke design. a friend of mine might be able to cast them up in work .

apologies for the low quality pics i was using my phone :worried2:

looks great so far. i read that you getting your rear-end case sorted, but i still would like to ask why you buried the rear arms so deep in the frame? in it's current configuration, it looks like you may get 6" or 150mm of travel before the tires hit the frame. as you said, you are sorting it.

You'll definately want more engine. I don't know how old/big your daughter is, but if it helps, I built for my 7- and- 9- year old kids with a 4hp, geared way down.

Just use a normal live rear axle(or one wheel drive, IRS soaks up to much power (let alone the diff) and adds too much weight, 2.6 hp isn't going to push a full suspension go kart over 10 km/h.....

Right now, not that fast. I geared it low, like 16:1 to give them a chance to learn how to drive it without killing anybody or anything. Later on, I'll swap out the jackshaft sprockets to speed it up some. Right now it maxes out around 12-14 Km/h. Slow, I know, but amusingly enough it creates so much torque it spins the wheels everytime!

I really like your design! but i think that engine is way to small for that kart your building! in the end you just want it to go faster, when it surtanly can handle much more speed!

is it going to be two-seated?
