Hi, I need to choose a engine for my future gokart and am using a online calculator (https://gokartguru.com/engineering_tool_kit.php) and it says with all my specs and a 16hp engine, the tires would slip. So my question is, is that bad if the tires slip? Id like the higher top speed of the beefier engine and its faster acceleration mostly. So should i use a smaller engine, or some gear system/detune of the engine/ no full power? Thanks.

Well it's good if you want to do burnouts, drifts, donuts and the like. Besides that, no.

What were the rest of the numbers you plugged in so we can get a better idea. Just note that is just an estimator, it can't tell the difference between a clutch or a TAV, slicks vs knobby, etc.

Attached is screenshots of settings. the first screenshot it 16hp and the second is the highest the power can go before slipping, if someone could tell me if that's a good estimation based on experience that would be great. Thanks.

You will be fine with a 212 predator. You have a 6:1 gear ratio on 12" tyres. Even with a centrifugal clutch you will be ok. There is no need for a 16HP engine on a kart so light. The clutch you will need for a 16HP engine (1") is going to be a lot more expensive than a clutch or TC you would need for the 212 predator

Honestly a decent centrifugal clutch for a 16hp engine is probably going to be more expensive than a Chinese 40 series.
