Been thinking about making my own buggy for awhile now. I have been hoarding Honda Odyssey FL250 parts for about an year now. This is what I have come up with the use for my front suspension.
It is really as basic as it can be. The FL250 uses a large pipe for to hold the J-Arms suspension. The shock mounts are on the j-arms. To use this set up you would just need to weld that bar in straight to your frame. Bam front suspension. No tricky angles and all that. it is already done.
The j-arms will cost you about $20 each on ebay. Some with hubs for $30 if you shop well. Ody Wheels are 8" and they are dirt cheap as well. These are heavy duty parts that can take a abuse well. The spindles use king pins like little cars.
The cross bar is very thick. You would need to search around some to find it I would think.
Here is some pics of my front suspension so far. As you can see it's really a simple setup. If you shopped well on ebay. You could buy this set up with wheels and hubs for a litle over $100. You would be able to mosh like a odyssey all day. Shop well for I see sellers asking $100 to $10 for j-arms with spindles. Do not buy a j-arm without the spindle.
3rd from last pic is a stocl fl250 front end.
2nd from last pic is my blue ody racer. They used the stock ody bar. But modded the j-arm to be wider. Easy but lots of work.
The last pic is my yellow ody racer. This j-arm is a aftermarket j-arm made in te 80's.
Here is the cat that used to make ody racing stuff. My front bar is from this cat back in the day. I am sure you would be able to find the pipe the correct size. Ody were big time money back in the day. If you lucky you will find a challenger chassis pop up. There is two on ebay right now. Wish I had the money. This is the same set up I will be using.

This looks like junk. But there is mega ravce parts on this ody. The cage is worth his asking price to me. wide front and axle. I wish I could buy this. This would be a bad arse restore for me. It's only 3 hours away.
Just to give you idea how racers used the wide front ends back in the day. This could work well for the DIY'er
