So I want to do a few things to beef up my new predator. I was thinking a cone style filter, new jet and a header. My question is I don't know what parts to get especially the jet.

Any links to what I need would be much appreciated.

I would also like opinions on the whole flywheel situation (and yes ive read the sticky). I want to do these few mods without having to spend a chunk of $$$ on a flywheel. I'm just wanting to pep the motor up a little bit.

this being said, I did replace my springs without touching the flywheel, haven't had any problems with the engine on my kart

I used the $75 kit from AFG

I think you can find quite a bit for modding your engine here:

As that sticky says, you shouldn't replace your springs with stiffer ones before you replaced flywheel and connecting rod.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times- there's just no predicting this stuff. You could run a stock 'wheel up to 8000RPM with never a problem, or have a high-dollar race 'wheel shatter at 4000. Spit happens.

Good that you've had no problems, just not sure I'd be willing to bank on it.

Instead of spending the bucks on a cone air filter, if you've got access to some upholstery foam and a coffee can, you can make your own like I did. http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?p=250418#post250418

ToyStory is right. But it also sounds to me like you're not in a hurry to open up your engine and remove the governor, etc...

If you keep the governor, don't worry about the flywheel. If you remove the governor, be aware of (but don't lay awake worrying about) the flywheel - weak stock valve springs will self-limit engine rpm to 5,000-5,500 rpm. If you remove the governor and swap in stronger valve springs to rev over 5,500 rpm, replace the flywheel.

That being said, first get the exhaust and intake, then worry about jets - because which jet size you get or drill to is going to depend on your engine, not what some guy on the internet tells you to get. To find out what size you need, you're going to have to run the kart and read the sparkplug - then jet accordingly.

Have you read the "helpful threads from the forum"? Lots of great info in there... :cheers2:

Thank You!!! Drives me nutty when I see people spouting off about "You need a #blah jet", based solely on a paper list of mods and hot parts. Folks take it as gospel, then can't figure out why they're not running right afterwards.

Re: brakes- What, the one in my pic? That's an Airheart mechanical unit. Works a treat! (This, coming from a hydro-nut!)

Thanks for the great information guys. I think I am going to take the governor out but im going to keep the stock springs. This is a just a yard buggy so I wont have it wide open enough to worry about the flywheel I dont think. I did order the filter, jet and header so ill know more of what im working with in the upcoming weeks. Again, thank you for all of the diverse insight.
