Brother gave me this old silver fox. He hasn't drove it in 3 yrs. Clean the bowl and this other plastic piece below the shut off valve. Runs just fine. Planing on changing oil today. I cant find any manual or anything else about it. Think I read the business is long gone. Would like to upgrade shocks, change wheel bearings, etc... I really don't know anything about engine besides how to clean the carb. Would like some advice and direction on where to buy some things. Also, the brake needs adjusted. Guessing I have to tighten the cable or something. Here is some pics. Btw, 6,2 225 and have a 7 yr old and 4 yr old. Just want it safe. And would like to ride it too. Just a free cart

You can get parts from any of these vendors and several others

Your kart should have disc brakes. To adjust them, jack up the rear of the kart, loosen the jam nut holding the adjustment stud tight on the caliper, turn the the adjusting stud clockwise until the pads just touch the rotor or you feel slight drag. Tighten the jam nut, road test.

So, I'm about to strip it down to the frame and have it sand blasted and powder coated. Thinking white color. Been reading a lot on this forum. The 6.5 Subaru engine seems durable. Seems like the parts are expensive for it too like the stage 1 racing performance. When driving it around, just doesn't give me that, "umph" like I want. From what i've read, could be due to gearing though. But, I haven't cleaned the carb either. I'm looking for more power and torque though. Any suggestions ? 8 or 13 hp predator? I need new shocks, wheel bearings. Need a new belt as well. Oh, and brakes.

Lots of replacement and also upgrade parts available for Predator 212. Haven't seen as much upgrade parts for Predator 420, but parts are available for it. Based solely on discussion traffic here, I'd say Predators are far and away the most common engines being used on karts. However it ends up, do stay with a torque converter for it. 30 series for up to 8hp., 40 series for up to 16hp.
Sandblast and paint? That won't help the rough seat bottoms, but those are the only thing I see wrong with that kart's appearance. Looks real good from the pictures you posted.

I would not be looking to modify it until those kids got a little bit older. The youngest at least 6 or 7. Just drive it like it is now they will probably have a accident or two until they figure it out. Even my 16 year old had to flip the cart over 7 or 8 times before she figured out that was no fun. Only bent 2 rear axles. I got off cheap!:lolgoku:

@madprofessor I actually went to Jo-Ann fabrics the other day and grab some pleather and then I grabbed some foam cushion. Needless to say I figured out how expensive the foam is. Wow. I put it back in ordered a new seat on power sport for like 70ish. So alrighty got the new seat. Yeah it seems like everybody has that predator 212. I might just go with that. Cheap, easy and easy to modify. @Denny . I totally agree. After reading all these posts think I'm just going to make this cart for myself. I'll make or buy different carts when my kids get a little older. It'll be a fun project for me and the kids. My daughter has a 90cc kayo 4wheeler. It's a knock-off brand, I bought it brand new at the dealership here in town. Very happy with it she can ride that. Remote kill switch and I have it govern down all the way. My youngest is only 3 and 1/2. Still few years before he can start riding that little 90 of my daughters. After reading all these forms and seeing how cool you can modify these engines and everything. That's when I decided I'll just build it for me. Does anybody know if I get that eight horsepower predator if it has the same upgrades as the 6.5. what I mean is are the parts interchangeable?

No the parts are not interchangeable. Seems to be more stuff for the 420. Not many people mod the 8 hp. 420 better bang for the buck.

You may have made a smart call on the foam rubber. I bought a 4" thick "heavy duty foam" chunk about 2' x 3' from WallyMart to make a minibike seat covered with vinyl. It felt right in the store, and all seemed fine in my shop until I plopped my bony behind down on it and bruised said behind on the plywood bottom.
Further research found that just about all cheap foam out there calls itself firm or heavy, and only the more expensive furniture grade stuff actually is.

Try buying it online at JoAnn Fabric then pick it up at the store. I walked in and thought it was way too expensive, the saleslady said go online & buy it using the 20% or 40% off coupon. The 2" high density foam and the premium vinyl should work out just right, I've redone a bunch of seats with new plywood and these products, great choices. Not 100% sure the vinyl I linked is what I use but I think it is.

I just ride around looking for someone throwing an old couch out then grab 1 or 2 cushions from it to steal the foam out of.
Cost = free.

So I'm breaking down the silver fox. I have to drink a few beers tonight. Feeling like a man 👍. Just got a couple questions, how about do I go cleaning this engine? I read Dawn dish soap and some WD-40. Seems like a good engine. Keep it around in my pole barn. The second picture shows the kill switch. I disconnected it off the silver fox and cut the line. Do I just have to attach that line I cut and ground it to the engine somewhere? Or what do I need to do? It was just on the toggle switch on the steering wheel to kill the engine too

I use Purple Power. You can dilute it or use it full strength. Brush the heavy greasy spots with a paint brush, let it soak then rinse it with a hose making sure no water gets into the air cleaner or muffler.

As far as the kill switch, I use the push button type. This eliminates forgetting to flip a toggle switch. I actually got that tip here on this site. I mount them to the steering column support then run the wire back to the engine. I pull apart the bullet connector coming off of the coil, cut the spade lug off of the kill switch wire, strip some insulation off then push the bare wire along with the bullet connector into the female end of the bullet connector. Most of the newer Clone 6 HP & up engines have a bullet connector coming from the coil that ties into the low oil cut off sensor. Pull that apart then insert your kill switch wire. You can (barely) see the kill switch mounted on the column support of the kart.

Just throw it into the trunk and take it to the spray car wash and hose it off. Make sure not to get it in carb, fuel tank and muffler. Let it dry off on the way home. When you get home hose it down with some WD-40. Remove the spark plug and oil up the cylinder and replace the plug.

So I think I'm going to keep the axle. I like this hex, think I'm going to replace the bearings and the sprocket. Also get a new brake disc. Repaint the rims and probably get some new tires just because these are dry rotted. Pretty much keep the axle and rims and replace everything else. Almost have it stripped. It's a sixty tooth sprocket, what is the gear ratio for the most torque? Also think I'm going to go with the 420 predator
