im trying to repair 2 B&S engines there gaskets are toast and desperately need in new ones i dont wanna go all the way to town(live far away) to buys new ones a while back i took some silicone i had laying around an applied to the head then torqued it down and wiped up the excess and the engine fired right up so it seemed it worked as a pretty good gasket...is this a good idea???

For any paper type gaskets just use thin card like the type on cereal packets.
Coat in a little oil, works a treat.
NOT recommended for areas with heat/compression I.e. Head gasket or exhaust
