Silence a Predator 420???

I'd like to make my Predator 420 equipped kart a bit more neighborhood friendly in regard to noise.

What mufflers do you recommend to make the 420cc Predator a bit more quiet than its stock muffler?

I'd like to avoid hurting the engine's current power output if possible.

(FYI, the scooter is not attached to the muffler)

I may be way off, but I'm thinking anything you add on or replace with, is going to cost you in performance.
Maybe stuff a little course steel wool into the backside of the muffler,
not a whole lot, just a little at a time? <<<<<<<Please notice question mark.

I have seen them almost silent with the use of a car muffler.
and since a car muffler is so much larger than needed there should be little performance loss.
Its just looks Goofy!

You can put the factory air filter and air box assembly back on. Where it was muffled before, you actually get a lot of intake noise when you add a simple cone/foam filter to the engine.

All the ricers and 'tunerz' do it for that extra, obnoxious noise.

I wish I could. The Stock airbox does not fit on the kart. I only replaced it with the "performance" intake so that the large 420 would physically fit on the kart. The 420 is pretty big with the stock intake, muffler and tank in place.

I was able to get the stock muffler to fit by removing it's safety shroud (vented sheet metal enclosure).

This is the route I'm thinking, a small car (or ATV muffler). Is there a particular make/model that you recommend? "Almost Silent", wow. Does a user on this site have an arrangement like this?

Id love to know if anyone has tried this. I like the idea. Or perhaps putting some fiberglass insulation in the muffler. The inside of the muffler is mostly hollow(I believe). There was a pic on here of a 212 muffler that had been cut open / dissected.

I'm a little hesitant to try something like that, because if it packs off in there, the engine will run terribly and I'll be in bad shape.

I would look into a small muffler like this. Says it has a removable silencer (?) which also implies more baffles could be added. About 10" long. Adapt it to fit with a sizing coupler or a funnel-like piece of tubing...

By silent I meant no louder than a stock say Camry or for Escort etc.
Sound is hard to really figure on a you tube vid... Depends on how loud you turn up your Speakers.

Well that's just great. I'm sure the OP thinks that's a viable option, having that gigantic thing hanging off the back of his buggy adding unneeded weight and ugliness.

You should stop trying to help. Take a break from the forum; take a week off and re-evaluate yourself, hmm?

I've seen those little baffles that hotroders use for zoomie pipes on show cars. Very easy to stick in the pipe, and remove later. Not sure if you could find one that fits your pipe though

The stock muffler is horrible. It restricts air flow so much it's surprising the engine even runs. You could silence it more, but if you want silence, go electric or get a car muffler. Which would look either crazy or kinda cool on a buggy.
