should my clutch have something to hold it on?

hey guys, so i have been wondering why my baja warrior did not have a bolt in the crankshaft to hold it on, and there isnt a set screw on the clutch.

it just floats there. the guy i bought it from let me take a look at another bike he had that was being parted out, and there was no bolt in that one either, and it had the same clutch.

here is a pic.

all the other pics of baja clutches i have seen do not have a bolt in the crankshaft and no set screw either.

Well the chain must just hold the clutch on then, should stay on alright that way as long as the chain or jackshaft doesn't fail...

I float the clutches on my racekart engines. I've got a bolt/washer screwed into the end of the pto just in case, but I've got it all shimmed so the clutch can float back and forth a full 3/8" on my pto. This helps maintain my sprocket alignment as the karts frame/axle flexes during extreme situations. It just helps to keep my chain from coming off.

Should be ok, but theres no harm in putting one on, and your less likely to famage the shaft if the chain goes and the clutch comes off (my 40 series pulley fell of my kart crankshaft and damage half the keyway :/)

yeah, its a max torque, there is no set screw and i have looked at every square inch of it.

my only concern was that it might move around and strip the teeth, but i guess its more of a problem of chain failure and the keyway getting messed up?

thanks guys.

mine has a built in key. it has those ridges like yours but mine seems less deep.

______
also, my clutch hangs off the shaft as you can see in the pic. a clutch bolt would push it too far back? i dont know. i have to go take another look at it and see if its all the way back.

Hey Blue,
Does your Baja warrior clutch actually say Max-Torque with the logo just like Russ's picture above?

I thought all the Baja karts/minibikes were made in China??? If so, they probably just ripped of the Max-Torque design and cloned they're clutches, except they just figured they could increase profits by omitting the set screws.

you may be right. i bought another one on ebay for $20, the guy said it was "better than a max torque"

i made a post on old mini bikes, and everyone was convinced it was max torque.

Did that clutch happen to come with come with a side of fly-lice and egg roll?

came from ohio, lol.

there should b a ally ranch entrance in the back of the clutch that screws in to hold it on

no allen wrench key in it at all.

the bike makes a chain crackle noise when i push it backwards, so i know its sliding around.

good thing #41 is tough thick stuff.

does yours have a set screw? i just found out my engine PTO has a shim on it and then the clutch, because i just swapped that max torque or max torque copy for a much higher quality hillard.
