The title has my question, but im also wondering what option would be the cheapest and such. im looking at this kit right now but I also see you can buy everything separately, would that be a dumb move? this is my first build.

If you are building from the ground up and you have no parts whatsoever.....then the kit might be an option for you. I would check the price of all the parts separately though and see if they aren't maybe ripping you off on the kit

Firstly though, what are you thinking of building? Are you using it on or offroad?

Flyinhillbilly is right. The forum members will be able to help you out much more if they know what type of use you want from your kart.

If you buy all the same parts in the kit separately you will pay more. But you may not be happy with the kits set up. If down the road (no pun intended) you start changing or upgrading you will lose any small savings you gained by purchasing the kit.

However buying the kit will save you from making a lot of decisions most of us new to the hobby (myself included) don't fully understand. My limited experience has shown me that buying a certain part affects what other parts are going to be compatible. This can be daunting to understand for us newbie's.

I have been trying some reverse engineering such as what tire size I want so what rims I should use so how will that affect the size sprocket I can use that will affect my final gearing. I get lost some times but that's when the forum members are very helpful.

I am so uneducated about the different paths to take I cannot give you reliable advice just trying to point out some of the things I have encountered thus far. I know searching on the forum and asking questions has helped me the most.

Good luck, hope to see what you come up with.

Have you owned a kart before this? If not, thinking maybe another option would be to pick up an inexpensive kart in decent shape to learn about them and get ideas about them. There are single seater karts, two seater karts, the buggy style karts, some with roll cages, some without, centrifugal clutch drives, torque converter drives. This way once you get some experience you can custom build whatever you like with what you've learned. If you're seasoned then good luck with what you decide.

I second this advice. I don't know your location either, but in my area you can pick up a decent running kart for under the $500 that kit costs. Try FaceBook marketplace or Craigslist for starters.

I'm most likely going to use it on road.

I’m with landuse, tell us your goals for this engine and we can probably help get you pointed in the right direction.

I'm thinking of using a 6.5 HP (212cc) OHV Horizontal Shaft Gas Engine EPA from harborfreight.

The kit is for the Free Kartfab 2 seater go kart build. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzJ0LQjPgipfr9mDUN1PEpkcigEcKjuxK

Depending on how much money you have on hand, you might be better off buying it piece by piece vs one large bulk purchase, just to help. You may not save money (may actually spend more).

So I might actually spend more money buying it separately or more money buying a kit?

I don't really want to use my budget on a ready go kart, I want to be able to build it. ive never owned a go kart but have driven one of course. I really want to custom build mine and it would be a single seater.

It's a tough call. You would have to itemize each individual part on that list separately and then compare the cost to the whole kit. You may save a few dollars overall, but you'll have to check each item to know for sure.

Where would I buy all the seperate parts? Im having a hard tim finding a website for them. Also what are the names of all the parts I would need to buy separately? And Im planning to make my frame out of metal, no welding though. I watched a build online done without welding but using long metal pieces and nuts and bolts as well as a metal cutter to cut the metal to pieces.

Seems that with these kits you're still not building your own kart. Sounds like you'd rather fabricate and design it from the ground up. Maybe pick up an old clunker and get ideas from it as far as legroom, suspension, drivetrain or go to a few licensed tracks and ride a few to get some ideas. Ambition is half the battle. Give you credit for that.

Ok, so what parts from the kit do you think I can live with for a bit before I need to upgrade it? Because I want to get it up and riding ASAP if I can. I will buy the better part right away if I have to though.

Add on the two extra wheels. I was at work when I made the list so I had no time to look over it.

thanks, I appreciate you giving my post some time, but do i buy the front wheels and its parts separately then? I don't see an option on here to add 2 more tires.
