Shortening a chain, Please help

Hey guys, go kart is nearly done but I have run into a problem, the chain I have is 6 links too long.

Am I better off raising the engine 10cm (hard), cutting the chain to size like brendonv does, getting it cut to length professionally or.. using a tension wheel (hard unless somebody can show me how)

Anyone can shorten a chain with professional results. Nothing magical. Get a chain breaker. I can't imagine not having one in my tool box.

Grind pin flat first, then punch.

I just grind the rivet almost all the way back and then use a(improvised) punch.

get a socket thats just big enough for the chain to sit on as a base. you use a socket so you have a base but a hole for the pin to fall through. Than punch out the pin. Done it a bunch of times and works great.

Hey russ would a bike chain tool work on machine chain?

I've seen some chain breakers made for multiple chain sizes but most seem to be made for working with a specific size chain.

i put the chain in a vice and punch out both pins just enough to release the side plate. then to put it back on take it out of the vise and put it on a hard flat surface like concrete and tap the side plate on enough so it doesnt fall off and then use the punch again to hit the plate down far enough so that its all positioned properly. Easy peasy
