Whichever dingleberry worked on this kart before me, they did a real job on the whole jackshaft/driven assembly. Not only is there no retaining ring but now that I have the whole thing off I see that the first 3/8" of the threads on the jackshaft have been ground off. I have no idea why.

As opposed to me ordering a new jackshaft and waiting another week to get this slug rolling, I am wondering whether there is enough room on that jackshaft to just cut-off that f'ed up 3/8 and still use the thing.

Anyone ever do that?

your gonna have to post a pic. if you cut it off it wont line up with your engine ?

I will post a pic later but I was concerned about the alignment. I am not sure whether there is a full 3/8 extra threads on the Driven side so that I could just do away with them.

can the jackshaft be moved from side to side, in an easy application? Can you remove the sprockets and move one down further on the shaft

jackshafts can be cut but i recommend you use a bandsaw with a metal cutting blade to do it. if you dont have access to one i guess you could always use a good hacksaw

Why a bandsaw? that would take a while...a chopsaw or angle grinder would work fine. The threads were probably buggered and then ground off.
