Shopping cart metal... worth anything?

I have a grocery store literally right outside my neighborhood... at times Ill find a cart or 2 in the neighborhood... I have seen pics of go karts made from shopping carts...

What I am wondering is the metal of any 'good' use, as far as for an actual go kart/scooter either framework or 'support'?

(All sorts of odd questions pop into ones head at 3am)

There was an episode of Monster Garage where they built a gokart out of a shopping kart; but don't remember if they used the shopping kart's frame or not.
May have to revisit that one on youtube or something to see if they left any input on the shopping karts metal/structure.

I would say that the metal from a shopping kart would be pretty strong.

Heck... might just 'make' a grocery "kart"...lol... have daughter dive it and I drive Lo-T to Biker weekend Myrle beach!... slap some side saddle bags on the side of the grocery kart... have an adult stuffed doll tied to the wrist TO the handle of it, being drug behind lol.... TELL me we wouldnt get attention...LMAO!

The biggest problem with using one is that they are usually chrome plated; unless you grind off all the plating (dangerous all by itself when you do) you risk breathing the fumes (poisonous) and really messing up the metallurgy of your weld, most likely making it extremely brittle.

Not saying it can't be done, just that it's a lot more work than it's probably worth, unless that's the look you are going for.....

i made one using a old gokart frame and cut the go kart axles off and welded them the bottom of the shopping cart it wasn't chrome plated it was like porcelain or some kind of baked on paint. pain in the *** to get that stuff off.
