what are some of you guys using for shocks? i ve been looking around and they have mechanical, hydraulic..... etc. i think that most of the go kart shocks i have been looking at will be ok, but i am worried about them being to stiff. i figure the kart will weigh arounf 500 lbs. i know if i keep the shock mount towards the front of the swing arm the travel will be more towards the back than where the shock is mounted, but is 2 or 3 inches of travel still enough?

get quad shocks off ebay. If they are to still mount them closer to the hinge on the swing arm.

If it takes 100 lbs to compress them 1" then they are ok.

i dont really want to get a used set, i d rather buy new. i tried buying used stuff and the wifey complained about making the kart crappy. i might just get the pair from northern that they have, i don t know. they are only 2 inches of travel but i know that is what they are meant for.... allthough 520 lbs seems like alot. maybe like stated above, i ll make a mount with several mounting holes for the top and bottom so i can move forward or back on the swing arm.

Umm..no..it takes 100 lbs to SMASH THEM. If you want a pair send me 10 bucks to ship them and I will retrieve them from my scrap bin.

I`m buying motorcycle shocks for my off road kart , you could use a single mono shock say from a 250 or so dirtbike on the back , I`m going a weird route on my rear setup , I`m going to use a set of front forks off a dirtbike and remove the inner spring and convert them to air , their 35"s long so I`ll make the top mount up on the roll cage and lower on the A-arms kinda like the way this Piranha is setup ,,;) Bill

I would just go for a pair of front end sled shocks. The shocks i got off a polaris storm take a hell of a lot of effort to compress, have a decent amount of travel and are 5 position adjustable.

mechanical is just spring force, hydraulic have oil in them, so theyre the stiff ones
