Shifter kart

So I got a hold of a riding lawn mower. This mower's engine is junk. But every thing else works fine. This lawn mower has a sprocket on the axle with a jackshaft and a gear box to the axle. So I'm curious if I can use the gear box and axle on my go kart and make a shifter kart.

The tires are 16 inch. The axle sprocket is 60 or 70. And the gear box sprocket is 10 or 12 not sure. Ill be using a 212 cc engine. I'd like to get at least 35mph. Oh and a 6 speed transmission. Also the axle has spider gears that work.

I too have wondered this same thing, but thought that the gears were setup for 'slow' speeds n possibly wouldnt handle the rpms... but im interested also in an answer to this thread...
