I had posted on here a couple of years ago asking if anyone had ever built a Shelby Cobra bodied go kart. Well I've finally started building mine for my daughter and thought I'd share some info about it and pictures.

The body is from these guys.
http://www.stang-aholics.com/ShowItem/108366 Cobra Style Fiberglass Go-kart Body.aspx

The wheels are aluminum 10" golf cart wheels with mini chopper 205/30/10 tires.

The frame is 1.5" round tube and the plan is for it to resemble the frame on my FFR Cobra when complete. The current plan is to have a front and rear suspension. I'm using Honda 400ex spindles and turning my own front hubs out of aluminum to fit the spindles and my wheels.

I'm attaching some pictures but I have more here if you're interested...

Thanks for the complements.

Yes, the engine is just a little Honda clone 6.5hp with electric start. I didn't want to have to raise the body to start it. :)

And yes the body is really nice, guess you get what you pay for. Really the only place I'll have to do any body work is across the back where a seam is.

Nothing really to report. I had been waiting on some parts to come in and now just waiting on some time to free up so I can work with those new parts. Hopefully I can finish my front hubs this weekend and that will allow me to start working on my upper and lower a-arms. I'll post some pics if I get anything accomplished this weekend.

I finished up my front hubs this weekend and one of the bushings I'll use on the front a-arms and rear swingarm.

I also have a few extra pictures on my photobucket page also.

That's pretty cool! If you need any info on where I bought my wheels and tires let me know I'll be happy to share. Also if you're going with a more traditional go kart frame I found sets of go kart hubs on ebay that will work with these wheels.

Klay you think i can use a golf cart frame on this thing?

I wanted to use golf cart parts like the rear axle and front end for mine until I got to checking dimensions. My body is only 6' long and 3' wide and the golf carts I checked on were about a foot wider and longer than my car. If your body is the right size I'd say go for it. You'd be a lot luckier than I am for it to fit and look right. :D
