still waiting on parts for the drive line, so....

I grinded down the welds on the front cowl and gave it a thin coat of body filler to make the edges and corners look nice. should clean up real nice with a bit of sanding.

Parts came in the mail and the first thing I want to do is apologize to everyone... I didn't take pics as I was installing and fabricating, as I was toooo excited. got the drive line situmagated and fired up the motor. everything worked so far as it should. after a few minutes of warm up I increased the RPM and guess what happened??? the track began to turn!!!



A dry run up on the stand is telling me so far everything is going to work as planned (isn't it beautiful when a plan comes together) I have a few finishing touches and some reinforcement welding to do to minimize vibration. Then it's all cosmetic work (functional of course )

I did take pics of the finalized drive line and will get them up ASAP, and promise to get additional pics up and videos of the sled in motion. now I just need snow!!!

she sled runs great. turns a good tight radius, track has plenty of torque and she takes off like a raped ape...

but...

my design has the center of gravity too forward w/ the rider... the instant I throttle up the sled nose dives and no traction to the tracks (makes for a great snow thrower ) not a good track length to sled length ratio.

I've let the sled run on it's own and it has great traction ( scoots along at about 7mphs as expected) but put any weigh on her and she's a mole, trying to nose dive into the snow n dirt,

2 options, 1: I gut the frame and re design for a lower more rearward center of gravity. 2: take the drive train and make a common cart or mini bike.

Again I promise pics but it really did work.. I swear!

Hm, add a subframe for the seat right above the tracks,
move the steering backwards to the second crossbar
(chain driving the front steering shaft to keep it easier with the engine)

And I think you should be fine with the COG;
also she'll end up with a longer snout just like daddy's sled has

Why not just stretch the frame in the middle and move the steering backwards as itsid suggested? That should lighten the front end and move the center of gravity towards the rear.

First thing, reverse the steering (tierods behind the stub axles) & move/lean the steering shaft back; that way you can comfortable move the seat back

Is it possible to shed some weight from the skis without affecting their structural integrity? &/or move the ski pivots back a bit, forcing the leading edge up

As she sits now, I had some scrap steel that i utilized to cover all the drive line chains, jack shaft and track for safety purposes. I first hand how quickly a chain and sprocket can take of 1.5 fingers and my little girl doesn't need that to happen.

So i my have to re design the seat and move it back farther as suggested. means cutting the radius i put in lengthening and re installing. also means the seat supports need moving as well. luckily the steel tube is on $3 US for 10 ft
