so my wee Maggie Ann told me she was going to ask Santa for a Snowmobile like Daddy has. after looking the 'ol inner web for small sleds to fit a 6 year old and then checking my wallet... i'm making one.

4 hp craftsman snowblower motor. 1" shaft w/ 1/4" keyway. the drive track off both sides. 1/2" electrical conduit bent and welded in sled shape ( the galvanized welding never eff, effect, effected me at all)

research tells me that a 6:1 is the way to go for karts n bikes but I have limited rear axle clearance due to it being a track not a tire (can't increase drive diameter) so for low torque I was thinking 10T:22JS:40ish Axle. sled is light (under 40lbs, 90 /rider) rear drive cog is 7" and the track total length is 52" in circ. 7" front cog 6 "rear wheel. like a bogie system. can anyone help ID correct Tooth numbers for a fast take off low speed.

there's one number missing JS devides into two (in and out) and you only mentioned one (22)

without that we cannot calculate

but it's like this:
(axle / js-out) * (js-in/ clutch) = overall ratio.

the higher the ratio, the lower the speed AND higher the torque (fast take off)
so you want this number to be big.
On the other hand 7" is really small, so a 6:1 overall ratio will end up being something like 12mph.. 7:1 -> 11mph, 8:1 -> 9mph
So maybe not much lower than this.

That'd be 10 -> 22 - 11 -> 40 (engine -> js-in - js-out -> axle)
for an 8:1 ratio

well then, there you have it : 11

12 would end up in a 7.33:1, 13 in 6.77, 14 in 6.29, 15 in 5.87:1
speedwise that'd be about 1 mph more per added tooth (in this range)
11: 9 mph to 15: 13 mph

The only hard time I can think that we give noobs is pointers of forum usage, like the edit button, and you can't reallt call that a hard time

so what you looking at is $10 worth of 1/2 electrical conduit bent to shape and welded with a 110V. the spindles are off a power wheels that was junk, the rack n pinion wasn't enough to turn the spindles as far as I wanted to I fabbed up the ol push pull method. the sheet metal is from some metal shelving that was out on the back 40 and the zipp ties up top are to give a bit of cushion. the dual tracks are off the snow blower donor with the stock axles modded to have spacers to keep the track equal lengths apart. the 4.5 HP 1" PTO should be beefy enough to get a stump puller made out of the sled. the front will get some fiber glass for looks to cover up the steering supports. and the rear is still in the works as I figure out JS placement, gearing. once that's all said n done some more conduit for support and anti twist properties ( like I said a stump puller) and more fiber glass to make it look more like a sled. all of this is my first go at a small ride on toy, so bear with me and pointers always help.

100% agreed. I too am a little nervous about the thin walled electrical conduit but the plan is to get the engine position and drive line finalized before I start reinforcing the structure with additional supports/cross members and gussets. the top (where the seat goes) will also be replaced by some arched tubing to give the over all flow of the sled a better look

1" Bore 1/4" keyway Clutch with 12-17 tooth spocket. chain size will be determined by what spocket i can get.

sorta at a stand still till I get the drive line numbers figured and parts secured, but once that happens the build will go quick! and as I know everyone like pics i'll have a lot to put up. I may even be the first to make a sled since I can't find anything quite similar anywhere else.
