My latest project is designed 12x4x5 Heavy Duty slicks. Is there any other possible wheel/tire options besides this? I see slicks that are wider in the 5" rim configuration, but are 1" shorter. A concessions kart is already super low, so I don't think an 11" tall tire would be wise.

Any thoughts or experiences would be great!

Also, if there's anyone out there who's lightened one of these 470 pound beasts...feel free to join in. As a side note, this kart is a world of fun to drive. The 9.0 hp Honda pulls hard. It's got excellent brakes and corners like its on rails. I weigh 200 pounds and it carries me well. Everything on it is heavy duty.

Cheers!

You could probably lighten it loads by removing all the protection that was added because of its concession kart job. Those karts are usually overbuild because of all the people that ride them. You could probably remove a lot of the bumpers and some extra metal added for strength. We will have to get some really good pics off the frame to tell you what to remove though

Wait up, the difference between 11" & 12" tyres is 1" in diameter. This will only make the kart 1/2" lower. Have a rethink...

Is the platform on the side necessary? My guess is by removing the whole structure (I'm assuming it goes under & has the same on the other side) it should shed 50+ lbs plus give you more clearance under the belly

I think you've got a valid concern there. Even an extra 1/2" of ground clearance cab sometimes be a big help.

Heres a few taller tires that should all fit/work fine on your stock rims. I've got a feeling all these tires are lower-quality Chinese brands, but I'd guess they'd be safe enough for use on a heavier kart like yours unless your planning on doing mods to exceed like 40mph or so:

Or if you can find any 6" diamiter rims to fit your kart, here's some other possibilities that are even taller, and offer different tread designs for off-road use:

We could try to help you source 6" diamiter rims if your interested, but you'd need to take/post some accurate measurements of what rims would fit your kart.

You'd also wanna carefully check for any possible clearance-issues before buying any taller tires

Buy a set of 6" rims and drill that pattern into them, run 15x6.00-6 tires all the way around, this will give you clearance.
